 x-men's colossus crushes wolverine.

Warning: Spoilers for Wolverine: Revenge #3Wolverine and Colossus have their final showdown, ending their friendship and camaraderie with the perfect symbol. After killing Mastermind and Sabretooth in the previous issue of Wolverine: Revenge, as well as Omega Red and Deadpool earlier in this issue, Logan comes face to face with Piotr one last time in Russia.

Wolverine: Revenge #3 by Jonathan Hickman, Greg Capullo, Tim Townsend, FCO Plascencia, and Cory Petit sees Wolverine crossing off each of the names on his list, leading him to a confrontation with Colussus. Despite Colossus trying to dissuade Logan from ending things with a fight, the pair engage in a brawl.

Wolverine looks at Colossus' dead body after their fight.

This last fight between the two former friends is hard-hitting, with Colossus leveraging his strength to get a few good hits, even managing to tear off one of Logan’s arms. But Wolverine ultimately proves himself the victor of their fight by stabbing Colossus through the head. After reattaching his arm, Logan buries him in Russia, marking his grave with an "X" for his loved ones to find his body.

Wolverine and Colossus Are Evenly Matched Fighters, But Wolverine Still Wins

And So Ends a Decades-Long Friendship

Wolverine walks away from Colossus' grave, which is marked with a wooden X.

Wolverine’s battle against Colossus settles the question of who would win for good. Both X-Men are incredibly durable fighters, as Colossus’s metal skin and super strength make him a powerhouse, while Logan’s adamantium skeleton and healing factor mean that he can come back from just about any hit thrown at him. Both of their strengths as fighters are used well in this battle, with Colossus ripping off one of Logan’s arms being an impressive feat. But Logan’s healing factor allows him to outplay Colossus, setting him up to ultimately take the win in this showdown.

This final fight between the two symbolizes their shattered bond.

Above all else, this fight is bittersweet. Wolverine asks why Colossus betrayed the X-Men to stand with the Brotherhood, and Piotr explains that he had to do what was best for his family in Russia. Logan says that he and the X-Men were Colossus’s family, before Colossus counters by saying he and Logan were only ever friends, but that wasn’t enough. It’s an incredibly tragic exchange which not only highlights Colossus’ loyalty to his family, but also how the X-Men were the first family Wolverine had ever known.

The Final Showdown Between Wolverine and Colossus Is Genuinely Tragic

Fans of These X-Men Will Be Devastated

Colossus and Wolverine face each other in a snowy landscape.

The most tragic part of their fight is the way it ends. When Logan buries Colossus, he marks his grave with an "X" for others to find. It’s the perfect symbol to represent this shattered bond. For as terribly as Colossus betrayed not only Wolverine but also the X-Men, this grave marker symbolizes that Logan still remembers Colossus as an X-Man. It’s an incredibly tragic moment, symbolizing their bond as members of the X-Men and how both men are left the poorer for Piotr’s betrayal.

Wolverine: Revenge settles the question of who would win between Wolverine and Colossus, ultimately crowning Wolverine as the winner of their fight. But more than that, this final fight between the two symbolizes their shattered bond, and Piotr’s grave marker is a visual manifestation of broken friendship.
