Five Nights at Freddy’s has an entire cast of iconic characters since the first game introduced Freddy Fazbear and the gang. Alongside the more sympathetic animatronics present throughout the series are some downright heinous villains, like William Afton and his later predecessor (or still him), Glitchtrap. However, there’s one villain who, while being much more sympathetic than the purple guy, deserves much more attention in the series: Circus Baby.

First appearing in Five Nights at Freddy’s: Sister Location, Circus Baby is the smooth-talking animatronic who guides the player through their new job. While she begins the game comforting the players and helping them overcome dangers presented by the other animatronics in Five Nights at Freddy's, her true intentions come out by the time players enter the Scooping Room. Beautifully voiced by Heather Masters, Circus Baby has an enthralling backstory and motivation that should be further explored in future FNAF games.

A Tragic Backstory & Bad Intentions Make For A Menacing Villain

Circus Baby is the central animatronic in Sister Location, alongside Funtime Foxy and Ballora, living in an underground branch of Fazbear Entertainment, called Circus Baby’s Entertainment and Rental. Circus Baby speaks about a key portion of her backstory in a monologue about halfway through the game. The Five Nights at Freddy's animatronic once attended a children’s birthday party, where she automatically killed a lone little girl who ventured too close. Since then, it has been confirmed that the little girl was Elizabeth Afton, who possessed the Circus Baby animatronic and has been stuck inside ever since.

How To Play Every FNAF Game In Chronological Order

Five Nights at Freddy’s has a notoriously messy timeline that’s built on speculation, but it’s possible to guess a chronological order for the games.

Circus Baby, AKA Elizabeth Afton, has one of the saddest backstories in the entire FNAF series. Not only was she murdered by her own father’s creation, which was programmed with the sole intent of killing children, but her father seemingly knew that she had possessed the animatronic and continued to let his company mistreat her with electric shocks.

Instead of attempting to hunt her father down like her brother Michael, Circus Baby expresses an interest in following in her father’s footsteps after years of torture and neglect. In the Completion ending of Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria Simulator, Baby becomes Scrap Baby, one of the scariest animatronics in the FNAF series. In it, Baby tells her father that she will continue his work before Michael burns down the building with all the animatronics inside. Baby is a villain, through and through, but with a tragic backstory that makes her very sympathetic.

Multiple Time Periods Could Be Used In The Next Title In The Series

Circus Baby is one of the most fascinating villains in a horror video game. She is manipulative and intelligent, as shown by how she tricks the player into entering the Scooping Room in Sister Location. Circus Baby makes players believe that there is good in her to be saved, but her actions show she is her father’s daughter right to the end. While Baby’s story is wrapped up in Pizzeria Simulator, there are periods of unaccounted time in the Five Nights at Freddy's franchise when she could be further explored.

Five Nights At Freddy's 2: Release Date, Cast, Story & Everything We Know

Five Nights at Freddy's 2 is the next installment in the FNaF live-action movie franchise, although exactly what to expect remains mysterious.

Two periods could be interesting to explore in a FNAF game: either before she and the other animatronics were placed in storage, perhaps in her own pizzeria like Freddy Fazbear, or when she combined into Ennard with the other animatronics before arriving in the alley in Pizzeria Simulator. A villain like Circus Baby, who has the sympathetic backstory of a murdered child, but is just as evil as her father, shouldn’t be forgotten. Another game or movie featuring Baby would be a fantastic addition to the Five Nights at Freddy's series given her role as a tragic villain.
