New episodes of Outlander season 8 have been hitting Starz every Friday night, but viewers will have to wait another week before catching the next installment in this story. This final season of the romantasy series will be made up of 10 episodes, and we are currently eight episodes in. This means there are only two left to go before we say goodbye to Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe's romantic pair for good. Naturally, we're all eager to see how things will wrap up.
So far in Outlander season 8, Jamie and Claire have returned to Fraser's Ridge, but there wasn't much time to get settled in. Things quickly went south in the North Carolina backcountry as the conflicts of the Revolutionary War continued to divide the colonists. Jamie survived a coup against his land ownership, but a book from the future warns him that his time is just about up. In the upcoming Battle of King's Mountain, Jamie is doomed to die.
Of course, a whole lot more has been going on as well. As Jamie attempts to change his fate, the magic of this fantasy world continues to puzzle Outlander's characters. We still need to learn exactly how Faith Fraser could have lived, and we now have the reveal that Fanny has the time-travel gene to reel over. Then there's the recent kidnapping of Lord John (David Berry) by Captain Richardson (Ben Lambert), which Outlander season 8, episode 9, will have to follow up on—but not yet.
Why There Is No New Episode Of Outlander Season 8 Tonight (May 1, 2026)
Networks often skip weeks in the middle of TV show seasons if there is a significant holiday or, more often, other programming that would get in the way. This isn't the case with Outlander this week, however. This momentary break was planned, as reflected in Starz's release schedule for season 8. Though the network hasn't said exactly why this choice was made, it's not entirely uncommon when a major TV show is approaching its grand finale.
A break in episodes ahead of Outlander season 8, episode 9, "Pharos", and episode 10, "And the World Was All Around Us," allows for a little additional anticipation before this series comes to its definitive close after 12 years on the air. It should make the finale and its penultimate episode all the more exciting, especially as Lord John's capture kicks up the heat, as well as the next step in Fanny's adventures, answers about Faith Fraser, and Jamie's supposed death in the long-awaited Battle of King's Mountain.
When Outlander Season 8, Episode 9, Will Release & What To Expect
Outlander season 8, episode 9, "Pharos," will release on Starz on Friday, May 8, 2026, so we won't have all that long to wait. The finale will then take place the week after, on Friday, May 15, 2026. These episodes are available to stream as of 12:00 AM ET on their respective release dates, and premiere on the Starz cable channel later that night at 8:00 PM ET.
Next Friday's Outlander episode will see Jamie and William (Charles Vandervaart) team up to rescue Lord John following his capture by Captain Richardson. Precisely why this villain committed this crime is unclear, as his motivations remain uncertain. Back in Outlander season 7, Richardson betrayed the British army to join the rebels, though he can hardly be counted as an ally of Patriots like Jamie and Claire.
It will be interesting to see how Jamie and William, who just patched up their relationship, work as a team. We can also hope that Lord John's situation will allow Jamie to officially forgive his old friend for his brief romantic encounter with Claire back in Outlander season 7. Overall, it's clear that this episode, as well as the Outlander season 8 finale, will be all thrills and excitement. Said and done, it should make this wait entirely worth it.
