Jujutsu Kaisen is better than ever now that season three is finally adapting the highly anticipated Culling Games arc, and even though one character has finally made his way back to the main timeline of the series, there's a huge portion of the fan base that still hates him.
Yuta Okkotsu is one of the strongest characters in Jujutsu Kaisen, full stop. He's one of only six Special Grade Sorcerers in the entire series, but a ton of Jujutsu Kaisen fans can't stand him, and sadly, it's not Yuta's fault at all.
Yuta Okkotsu Is a Complicated Character, and It's Not His Fault
Custom image by Kolt DayTo say Yuta's existence in Jujutsu Kaisen is complicated is a massive understatement. It's a pretty unknown fact, but Jujutsu Kaisen's creator, Gege Akutami, initially created Yuta to be the protagonist of the series.
Jujutsu Kaisen 0 was created well before Jujutsu Kaisen was ever supposed to be a series, and that has led to a few plot hole-adjacent aspects within the franchise, and most of them have something to do with poor Yuta. Yuta was unbelievably strong in Jujutsu Kaisen 0, and he had to be downgraded massively in Jujutsu Kaisen.
Rika, Yuta's childhood best friend turned Cursed Spirit, also had to be changed as well. She's the single strongest Curse in the series during Jujutsu Kaisen 0, but after the prequel, she can barely be considered top five.
A Lot of Fans Hate Yuta, and That Probably Won't Ever Change
There are huge portions of the Jujutsu Kaisen fan base that despise Yuta Okkotsu. They hate that he was downgraded after Jujutsu Kaisen 0, and yet, remains an unbelievably strong character that has little to no character development. He was barely developed as a character in Jujutsu Kaisen 0, and that doesn't change much during the main story, according to many.
Compared to Yuji, Yuta doesn't suffer much. Yuji is an amazing protagonist for character development, and he's suffered more in two seasons of Jujutsu Kaisen than most characters suffer throughout an entire franchise.
Yuta also has the strongest ability in the entire series. His Copy ability allows him to use even Satoru Gojo's techniques, taking Yuta's strength to an entirely different level. During his fight against Sukuna at the end of Jujutsu Kaisen, Yuta is using both Kenjaku's and Gojo's techniques simultaneously, showing just how broken he is.
