Ryan O'Rourke is a Senior News Writer at Collider with a specific interest in all things adult animation, video game adaptations, and the work of Mike Flanagan. He is also an experienced baseball writer with over six years of articles between multiple outlets, most notably FanSided's CubbiesCrib. Whether it's taking in a baseball game, a new season of Futurama or Castlevania: Nocturne, or playing the latest From Software title, he is always finding ways to show his fandom. When it comes to gaming and anything that takes inspiration from it, he is deeply opinionated on what's going on. Outside of entertainment, he's a graduate of Eureka College with a Bachelor's in Communication where he honed his craft as a writer. Between The IV Leader at Illinois Valley Community College and The Pegasus at Eureka, he spent the majority of his college career publishing articles on everything from politics to campus happenings and, of course, entertainment for the student body. Those principles he learned covering the 2020 election, Palestine, and so much more are brought here to Collider, where he has gleefully written on everything from the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes to Nathan Lane baby-birding sewer boys.

This month, Alamo Drafthouse will be heading into space with special screenings and goodies for the much-anticipated Project Hail Mary starring Ryan Gosling. However, that hasn't stopped the premier dine and drink theater chain from planning their next big trip to another galaxy. Tickets are on sale now for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, the much-anticipated follow-up to 2023's smash hit The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which will send Mario, Luigi, and friends old and new to the stars to thwart the plans of Bower Jr. With less than a month until blast-off on April 1, Collider has once again partnered with Alamo to share a look at their new limited-edition popcorn bucket and all the fun programming planned for toadstools big and small when the film arrives.

At the center of the chain's Super Mario Galaxy celebration are the Family Party screenings. Complete with a live host, Star Wands like Rosalina's, and glow-in-the-dark straws, the showing will be decorated to transport viewers of all ages to the cosmos. Meals for each screening can also be appropriately Mario-themed with a new menu launching on March 20 for all screenings through April 20, including shakes, cocktails, mocktails, and a pizza loaded with mushrooms that, while not able to make you grow larger, are made to be delicious. Finally, Family Parties will also feature pre-show contests for the chance to win the film's adorable new 105-ounce Yoshi popcorn bucket, depicting Mario's green dinosaur pal offering food with a smile from his egg. For those who aren't lucky enough to win one, these collectibles will only be available while supplies last online at AlamoMart, in the lobby, or ordered directly to your seat through QR code.

Illumination's Super Mario movies are, of course, based on Nintendo's iconic video game franchise, so Alamo also has something tailor-made for gamers, too. On opening weekends in select locations, attendees can participate in Mario Kart bar tournaments for prizes and bragging rights. Further details about how to join in the chaotic racing fun can be found through local Alamo listings.

What to Expect From 'The Super Mario Galaxy Movie'?

Like Project Hail Mary, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is one of the most anticipated films of the spring after its predecessor finally gave Nintendo's poster boy a worthy cinematic adventure that earned $1.36 billion at the global box office. From returning filmmakers Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, alongside writer Matthew Fogel, the sequel picks up after the plumber brothers defeat Bowser and save the Mushroom Kingdom, as Bowser Jr. sets out to rescue his father. To stop him, Mario, Luigi, and company must travel across galaxies, visiting colorful locales spanning to the very stars in the sky. In doing so, they not only meet Yoshi, but also other new allies, like the watcher of the cosmos, Rosalina, and enemies, like the egg-spewing Birdo.

All the main players will be back for Mario's next adventure, including Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day, Jack Black, Keegan-Michael Key, and Kevin Michael Richardson. There are two big new voices, though, with Brie Larson taking over the Comet Observatory as Rosalina and Benny Safdie, fresh off directing The Smashing Machine, playing Bowser Jr.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie arrives in theaters on April 1. Get a look at Alamo Drafthouse's exclusive promotions above, and visit the chain's official website for information on how to get tickets for both regular and Family Party screenings.
