Demi Lovato Postpones Start of Tour to Protect Her Health
Demi Lovato wants to explain why she ever did that.
Because despite raising eyebrows at the time, it turns out Demi’s heart was in the right place when she sang “Heart Attack” at a charity event for the American Heart Association in 2024.
“I want to say they asked me to sing that,” she said during a March 19 appearance on iHeartRadio’s Elvis Duran Show. “Because I flagged it beforehand and was like, ‘Um, isn’t this like not the vibe?’ And they were like, ‘No, they want to hear it.’”
But, as Demi recalled, some fans quickly called out the irony of singing that particular song for an organization dedicated to preventing cardiovascular disease and, well, heart attacks.
“Then, of course, people online are like, ‘Why did she sing that?’” the 33-year-old explained. “And I’m like, ‘Y’all, it wasn’t me—I didn’t ask. I flagged it.’”
To which Elvis Duran joked, “I thought that was the worst idea ever of yours.”
"She spoke on the mind-heart connection," the spokesperson told Entertainment Weekly. "It was a sensitive moment intended to champion the women in the room—the very reason why Demi was at the event."
The rep added, "It was actually a beautiful moment."
During the event, Demi—who herself suffered a heart attack and three strokes during a near-fatal overdose in 2018—explained why the song was an important one to her, too.
"While my next song is about the intense feelings that come with falling in love as well as heartbreak, opening yourself up, taking risks and not being afraid to do it again," she explained on stage during the concert, per Entertainment Tonight, "this song has many parallels for me, my journey and a reminder for all of us in the room just how strong the mind-heart-body connection truly is."

But these days, Demi—who tied the knot with husband Jutes last May—is in a heartwarming place in life, feeling good in her mind, body and soul.
In fact, if the Disney Channel alum could pass along a message to her younger self, she’d say, “I would say that there's a light at the end of the tunnel and all of the hard work becomes worth it.”
“Whether it's hard work on your recovery from eating disorder,” she continued during her iHeartRadio appearance, “or whether it's recovery and sobriety, it’s possible to find joy again and to live the life that exceeds your wildest dreams.”
