Why Alex Cooper Turned Down Multi-Million Dollar Offer From Amazon

Alix Earle Seemingly Confirms Alex Cooper Feud

Daddy gang, picture this: two major companies want to be your new podcast home.

That is exactly what Alex Cooper went through in 2021 after Call Her Daddy’s success led to her being courted by both Amazon and Spotify. And while she recognized the value both companies would bring to her podcast, she ultimately found herself saying no to Amazon in favor of Spotify.

“Spotify, to be honest, it was the same amount of money basically and a little less work," Alex shared on The Burnouts podcast March 5. "So I was like, ‘Why would I not do that?’”

According to the 31-year-old, Amazon would have required her to do more episodes, with many of them living behind the company’s paywall.

"It was a lot,” she continued. “As a creator at the time who didn't have a company behind me—I was a one-woman show—I was just trying to look at, ‘How will I be able to execute this type of deal in a capacity that I feel like I'm actually capable of?’”

Especially because Alex wanted to make sure she was being “a good partner.”

"When someone is handing you that type of money,” she reasoned, “you want to make sure that you're exceeding their expectations.”

And when it came to breaking down the Amazon deal versus the Spotify deal, the latter was one she could more easily wrap her head around.

“It would be 52 episodes a year. Every single month I was paid a check and it was all guaranteed money, which was so crazy,” Alex explained. “I didn't have to hit benchmarks. I didn't have to hit anything.”

In hindsight, she’s amazed at the three-year deal Spotify gave her, although she knew it would be a transition for her fans as they could no longer find her on Apple Podcasts, noting that was her “biggest platform at the time.”

Still, Alex’s time with Spotify was beneficial for both her and the company, as she brought more women onto the platform as podcast listeners. And while the deal was successful, she definitely felt like she got savvier when it came time to sign her current contract with SiriusXM.

Alex and her Unwell Network, which she founded in 2023, moved over to the platform in 2024, signing a deal worth $125 million that covers a little over three years.

“When I got my deal then with Sirius XM I was recognizing that there were so many more levers that I could pull,” she explained. “And I think as much as I loved my deal at Spotify, it felt very limiting and singular by the time I had hit that three-year window.”

The YouTuber—who boasts over 430 million subscribers on the platform—shared that he had become a billionaire "on paper" in February 2025.

However, he explained that he mostly doesn't keep that money for himself.

As of January 2026, he shared he has "negative money," despite his estimated $2.6 billion net worth.

“I’m borrowing money. That’s how little money I have,” MrBeast told the Wall Street Journal. “Technically, everyone watching this video has more money than me in their bank account if you subtract the equity value of my company, which doesn’t buy me McDonald’s in the morning.”
