The Maintenance Pump key is one of many keys you can find throughout Marathon and Tau Ceti IV, and as keys often do, it opens a locked door. Problem is, other than knowing it's somewhere in Maintenance on Dire Marsh, you don't know exactly where said locked door is. It's guaranteed to give you some decent loot inside, but it's possible to spend ages wandering around Maintenance — it's a big place — without finding the door.
Here's where to use the Maintenance Pump key in Marathon and nab the goodies inside.
Maintenance Pump key door location in Marathon
Graphic: Ford James/Polygon Images: Bungie via PolygonMaintenance is located southeast of Quarantine on Dire Marsh, and it is massive. It's also likely full of UESC enemies, so clear out as many as you can when you arrive, because the door is slap bang in the middle.
Image: Bungie via PolygonYou're looking for a small red building within the main Maintenance hangar, with stairs running up the outside, next to a docked truck-esque vehicle in a loading bay. The door itself is highlighted by a lime green wall. Essentially, the door is in plain sight, but it's very easy to explore every nook and cranny of this place when it's actually staring you right in the face.
Image: Bungie via PolygonUse the Maintenance Pump key to get inside and you'll have upwards of six (or seven) caches to search, each of which containing weapons, equipment, and consumables. Keep an eye on the door though, because the last thing you want is to be killed while looting.
Where to find the Maintenance Pump key in Marathon
Image: Bungie via PolygonIf you've found the door to the Maintenance Pump room, but you don't have the key, your best bet is just to keep looting as drops are fairly random in Marathon. I found mine in a supply drop, which will often bring a lot of attention your way due to the noise it makes and how long it takes to call in, but the fact it can reward high-level loot often makes it worth the risk.
Keys are also considered to be "fragile" items, which means if you're knocked down, the item is destroyed, even if you don't get killed. So if you find one, I'd recommend steering clear of any combat whatsoever.
