Marvel Rivals not only awards the standard MVP at the end of each match, it also declares someone the SVP — a mysterious title that the game never fully explains.

In this Marvel Rivals guide, we’ll walk you through what the SVP award means and how you can earn it on your team.

SVP stands for Second Valuable Player, and is an award given to the best-performing member of the losing team in Marvel Rivals. It mirrors the MVP award (for Most Valuable Player) that the game automatically grants to the best player on the winning team.

To earn the SVP title, you’ll need to perform your role better than the rest of your teammates performed theirs. It’s a bit esoteric, but that could mean something along the lines of the following:

  • If you’re playing as a duelist, that means getting the most kills or dealing the most damage.
  • A strategist might get SVP because they healed more damage than anyone else on their team.
  • A vanguard might get SVP for blocking the most damage in a losing match.
  • If you got a clutch team wipe by throwing yourself off the map with the enemy team in your mouth as Jeff the Land Shark, but your team still couldn’t lock down the win, you’ll probably pick up the SVP award on your way out for the incredible play.

SVP doesn’t do anything in quick play. In ranked, however, the winner of the SVP award doesn’t lose any ranked points, despite losing the match. This is a tool that mitigates some of the random matchmaking luck in a team-based game like Marvel Rivals. If you got screwed by matchmaking, were truly better than the rest of your teammates, and can prove so via your gameplay, you won’t be punished for their failings.
