Warning: Spoilers ahead for Silo season 2, episode 10!Despite being separated from her friends and family for Silo season 2, Juliette's fate in the finale sets up a major change for the show's future. Rebecca Ferguson leads Silo's cast, reprising her role as lead character Juliette Nichols. While the debut season follows her home, Silo 18, season 2 features two settings. After being sent out to "clean" in Silo season 1's ending, Juliette makes her way to nearby Silo 17, where she encounters a mysterious vault-dweller named Solo.
It's clear from the start that Solo might be hiding some aspects of his identity, but in the end, he helps Juliette get home. Silo season 2's ending sees conflict boil over in Silo 18, which in turn, forces Juliette to get back home. As nice as it would have been for her to walk right back into her silo, Juliette can't seem to catch a break in Silo season 2. Not only does she encounter a surprising character upon her return but the outcome of the encounter might completely change the dynamic of the show moving forward.
Bernard Pulls A Gun On Juliette When She Tries To Enter Silo 18 In The Season 2 Finale
Juliette Was Not Expecting Bernard To Be The First Person She Sees After Returning
After hearing the explosion coming from the direction of her home silo, Juliette quickly gathers her gear and says her goodbyes to the survivors of Silo 17. She knows the fate of her own silo hangs in the balance, understanding that she must get back before it's too late. When she gets to the outer door of her silo, Juliette initially finds herself trapped outside before it suddenly opens, allowing her to head down the steps to the real entrance. There, Juliette comes face-to-face with Bernard who points a gun at her as she approaches Silo 18's door.
The outside world was destroyed well before the events of Silo, but season 2 finally provides details into what caused the apocalyptic conditions.
It's crucial to note that the Bernard in the suit is a very different version of the character than Juliette last encountered in Silo season 1. The mayor has essentially given up, believing that the silo can no longer be saved. He admits as much when he admits to Juliette about wanting to go outside "to feel free for one f*cking moment of [his] life." Technically, the gun is not initially meant for Juliette but instead a backup plan for Bernard in case of a slow death when going outside. Before Juliette can bring Bernard up to speed, the pair are engulfed in flames.
Juliette's Firefighter Suit Likely Saved Her Life At The End Of Silo Season 2
Bernard Might Not Be As Lucky As Juliette
Bernard suggests Juliette won't be able to save the silo, but she counters by revealing that she knows about the "Safeguard Procedure," specifically how to stop it from killing everyone. Before she can fully explain, the door to the airlock begins to close, so Juliette jumps in. Bernard tries to stop her but gets stuck in the airlock moments before the small room bursts into flames through the sterilization process. Granted, Juliette would have survived the fire in the airlock since she's wearing firefighter gear instead of a normal Containment Suit.
In the Silo books, Juliette thinks the person coming outside is Lukas, so she attempts to save him from the fire in the airlock.
Bernard, on the other hand, is wearing the typical Containment Suit, and there's no indication that those are fireproof. The scene between Juliette and Bernard does reveal he used heat tape, and probably the higher-grade version that allowed Juliette to stay alive outside. Still, the materials probably won't have the life-saving effect compared to Juliette's suit. Even though Juliette is seen jumping in his direction, maybe in an attempt to shield him from the flames, the entire airlock fills with fire, so if not killed, Bernard likely suffered serious injuries.
How Juliette Still Saved Her Silo In Season 2
Juliette Prevented A Massive Amount Of Death
Upon learning more about Silo 17's rebellion and overall fate from Solo, Juliette knew she had to get back to save her own silo from disaster. The struggles surrounding finding a replacement suit may have slowed down her return effort, but in the end, Juliette still saved many of the citizens of Silo 18 in season 2. When a group in Mechanical learns of Juliette's survival, the rebellion takes another turn as the citizens assume it's safe to go outside.
Since Silo season 2 only covers the first book in the Hugh Howey trilogy, many viewers may be curious about what happens next in the fictional story.
Thankfully, Juliette returns to Silo 18 just in time, holding a sign to the camera that reads, "not safe - do not come outside" as a warning. What's interesting is that Juliette doesn't even know if anyone would be watching the outside footage or if the cameras still even worked. Still, she prioritizes warning the innocent people in Silo 18 so they don't make the mistake of going outside. There's still a lot to figure out in regard to fully saving the silo, especially with the "Safeguard Procedure," but Juliette's return makes Silo season 3 a lot more exciting.
