‘Werwulf’ Trailer Unveiled As Focus Features Touts Robert Eggers’ “Most Terrifying Motion Picture Yet” – CinemaCon

Universal has offered a first look at Werwulf, its latest gothic horror film from Nosferatu‘s Robert Eggers.

At CinemaCon in Las Vegas this evening, the first trailer played for the room only, with the film teased as Eggers’ “most terrifying picture yet.”

An official logline for Werwulf hasn’t been released, but it’s now understood that this is a werewolf flick set in 13th-Century England, reteaming the director with past collaborators Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Lily-Rose Depp, Willem Dafoe and Ralph Ineson.

In the very dark and ominous trailer, we hear whispers of a curse and see a house on fire. Things wrap up with a look at Taylor-Johnson seemingly transforming into the titular creature.

Continuing his run of historically-rooted horror after The Witch, The Lighthouse, The Northman and Nosferatu, Eggers penned the script with his frequent collaborator, Sjón. The project extends his relationship with Focus Features following Nosferatu, which broke out as a critical and commercial hit at a worldwide gross of around $181M, and followed his work on The Northman.

Focus Features financed the film and produced alongside Eggers and Sjón, with Maiden Voyage’s Chris and Eleanor Columbus executive producing. Like Nosferatu, it’s set to release on Christmas Day.
