Wallace & Gromit's Return Introduces A New Character (Who Deserves Their Own Aardman Spin-Off)

The following contains spoilers for Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl, now streaming on NetflixWallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl introduces a new Aardman character that's compelling enough to carry her own spinoff. The beloved world of Wallace & Gromit has been growing since the very first animated short, with uniquely lovable riffs on archetypical characters fleshing out Wallace and Gromit's corner of England. This extends to their latest film, Vengeance Most Fowl, which brings back plenty of elements from previous adventures like the villainous Feathers McGraw.

One of the best elements of the new film is the addition of a new character to Wallace and Gromit's extended cast of characters, who fits neatly into the franchise's sweet tone. While a definite hero within the story, she's also a surprisingly good parody of a classic TV archetype, giving the film a bit more of a satirical edge than it initially appeared to. In fact, this fresh face in Wallace & Gromit's new movie is a strong enough character to justify an entire spinoff.

Wallace And Gromit PC Mukherjee 3

PC Mukherjee is a fun addition to the world of Wallace & Gromit, and her role in Vengeance Most Fowl proves she could carry her own stand-alone story. PC Mukherjee is quickly established in Vengeance Most Fowl as a well-intentioned and clever police officer, whose enthusiasm for the job makes her a somewhat comical and effortlessly likable character. Despite being positioned as an antagonist to Wallace due to her seizure of his inventions, Mukherjee proves to be a far more reasonable officer than her superior Chief Inspector Albert Mackintosh.

Mukherjee also turns out to be an ideal character for Wallace & Gromit to use as a means of poking fun at the authorities.

Despite being a largely heroic character, Mukherjee also turns out to be an ideal character for Wallace & Gromit to use as a means of poking fun at the authorities. The officer's frequent attempts to de-escalate situations quickly spiral out of control, such as when she tries to get a cat down from a tree with the same tactics one would use in a hostage situation. She's a great source of comedy, but is also ultimately a heroic character who ends the film promoted in the wake of Mackintosh's retirement, set to continue her hunt for Feathers McGraw.

PC Mukherjee Deserves Her Own Spin-Off

PC Mukherjee Could Headline Her Own Parody Of Police Shows

PC Mukherjee is a great character, and could easily carry her own spinoff. It wouldn't be the first time Aardman Animation has expanded on a minor character, with A Close Shave's Shaun the Sheep getting his own show that is now set to debut a seventh season in 2025. PC Mukherjee already has an ideal story to expand into a solo show, focusing on her continuing mission to bring Feathers McGraw to justice for his crimes. Even beyond having a central focus on any specific threat, Mukherjee could continue to be a cheeky and quietly cutting parody of police shows.

Aardman invented a whole new stop-motion animation technique for Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl, as revealed during Screen Rant's set visit.

A spinoff focusing on PC Mukherjee could be a great parody of the classic "police procedural" archetype, bringing a goofy and homey approach to the genre. Mukherjee could embark on charming adventures across her small English town. It would be a great way to keep PC Mukherjee in the universe, even if any other future Wallace & Gromit shorts or films remained focused on the central duo. Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl proves the animated Aardman universe has plenty of room to grow, especially with characters like PC Mukherjee.
