Wait, Did Dragon Ball Daima's New Hero Just Introduce The New Series' First Plot Hole?

3 days ago 6

Warning: Spoilers for Dragon Ball Daima, episode #4Dragon Ball Daima has made it clear that its new hero, Glorio, is quite a powerful fighter in his own right. However, one question he had for Goku causes a lot of uncertainty, and may well be the first plot hole introduced in the new series.

Glorio is a native of the Demon Realm, and while he primarily uses a laser blaster, he quickly proved that he's no slouch when it comes to martial arts. Glorio made quick work of the ruffian in the bar, and easily dispatched the monster from the Sea of Darkness that tried to eat Goku. However, not long after that, Goku was able to detect an ambush ahead using his Ki, subverting the enemy's element of surprise and making it trivial to defeat them. That's when Glorio asked a rather confusing question that leaves open the distinct possibility of a plot hole.

How Can Glorio Not Know What Ki Is?

Glorio's Ki Confusion Makes No Sense

When Goku explains that he was able to detect the enemy's Ki, Glorio asks what Ki is, as if he's never heard of the concept before. However, just prior to this scene, when they were crossing the Sea of Darkness, Glorio was shown to be capable of flight, something that generally requires the user to be adept at manipulating Ki in order to do. If Glorio isn't using Ki to fly, then just how is this Demon Realm native able to fly around the way that Goku does?

In Dragon Ball, a user can manipulate the Ki in their body in order to fly, something that Gohan was able to teach even Videl, who had relatively little Ki at the time. Pan was even shown in Dragon Ball Super to be capable of flight as an untrained baby, suggesting that the technique is very basic indeed. While just about anyone can use Ki to fly, there have been very few instances of characters in Dragon Ball flying through other means. Even divine beings like the Supreme Kai use Ki to fly.

Glorio asks Goku about Ki, seemingly unfamiliar with it.

If Glorio were using Ki to fly without realizing it, one would think that the Supreme Kai would've called attention to that fact, but that wasn't the case in the episode. Characters who are adept in magic have been shown to fly using magic rather than Ki, but there's no reason to think Glorio has any particular skill with magic. One could also fly with wings, but Glorio clearly doesn't have those, either. He's also given no indication of using technology, like a hover belt, to fly. So, the question again becomes, how does Glorio fly?

Glorio's ability to fly seemingly without any knowledge of Ki manipulation may well be a plot hole, or it could be something else that will only be explained later on. It will be interesting to see if Goku is able to teach Glorio about Ki manipulation, and how that might enhance his fighting abilities further. Only future episodes of Dragon Ball Daima will reveal the truth, however.
