Amazon MGM Studios has now released the first public trailer for Verity. It opens with Lowen (Johnson) carefully walking through a house at night, where she sees Verity (Hathaway) seemingly sleeping and Jeremy (Josh Hartnett) watching television. Lowen approaches Jeremy and the two are physically intimate, but things take an eerie turn when he transforms into Verity, who grabs Lowen's head and bites her lip hard enough to make it bleed. Check out the trailer below:
Unlike It Ends With Us, Regretting You, and Reminders of Him, Verity is not a romance story, which the trailer emphasizes with the haunting and surreal experiences that Lowen is having, especially after discovering one of Verity's manuscripts. The footage leaves no question about the change in tone from Hoover's other adaptations, although the source material has proven to be just as successful as her other work.
The true nature of Verity's psychological state, and the effect it is having on Lowen, is a mystery at the heart of the film. The trailer provides a glimpse of Hathaway's chilling performance in a major year for her that also includes the releases of Mother Mary, The Devil Wears Prada 2, The Odyssey, and The End of Oak Street. Since Verity is coming to theaters on October 2, it will be the last to come out of Anne Hathaway's 2026 films, with Mother Mary already released, The Devil Wears Prada 2 debuting on May 1, The Odyssey on July 17, and The End of Oak Street on August 14.
While Hathaway, Johnson, and Hartnett are the three main stars, Verity's cast also features Ismael Cruz Cordova, Brady Wagner, and podcaster Alex Cooper. Cordova plays Lowen's agent and former lover Corey, Wagner plays Verity and Jeremy's son Crew, and Cooper will be playing herself. The film is directed by Michael Showalter, who previously worked with Hathaway on The Idea of You, and it is written by Nick Antosca, who has written for Hannibal and the miniseries Candy.
