Vampire Crawlers is a dungeon crawler teeming with unique characters, items, and secrets worth finding. But if you want to make it to the end of this roguelike deckbuilder and see it all, you'll need to invest in some upgrades along the way. There are quite a few, and they all unlock through different means as you progress.

You can respec your points with the click of a button at any time, giving you a chance to try a number of different builds and ideas. Even so, there are specific upgrades that are always worth having your points invested in, especially during the beginning stages of the game. With that in mind, here are our picks for the four best upgrades to pick first in Vampire Crawlers.

Greed

Greed in Vampire Crawlers

If you're after efficiency, Greed should be your primary focus in the opening hours of Vampire Crawlers, as it'll help you make even more coins. You'll likely unlock it within the first few hours of the game, making it easy to start investing early.

This upgrade grants you 25% more coins per rank from all sources. As such, it's smart to grind out the necessary coins up front to get this to a minimum of Rank 3 (though Rank 4 is obviously best). It will require a little bit of sacrifice at the beginning, but with up to double the amount of coins coming in for the remainder of your playtime, you'll be setting yourself up for long-term success by going this route.

Might

You'll want to put points into Might as early as possible to increase the overall damage your attacks do to enemies. This is the most important combat-related upgrade you can get during the first half of the game, and maxing it out quickly will help you make faster progress in dungeons.

We'd recommend that you toss at least one or two points in Might before Greed unlocks, then switch over and max that one out before returning to this. Afterward, though, upgrade this as often as you reasonably can, even if it means doing a little bit of grinding.

Growth

During the first handful of dungeons you'll encounter, Might upgrades are usually enough to carry you through, so long as you're stopping to fight each enemy group to level up. Still, the Growth upgrade will increase your XP gain dramatically, helping you much more in the later levels when you'll really need it.

It's worth investing at least a point or two into this immediately, since it's not terribly expensive to do so. Even the small increases will improve your ability to stay competitive throughout a dungeon.

Cooldown

Cooldown in Vampire Crawlers

While each character has a set number of mana uses, Cooldown affects how much additional mana they will start a dungeon with. Since you'll want to be able to use your good cards as soon as possible in runs, it's a great idea to have as much mana as possible.

You'll unlock Cooldown a little way into the game, and it's a good idea to immediately grind out the coins to invest in both ranks to ensure you're starting with plenty of mana. Combined with mana upgrades found during a run, as well as temporary mana increases from Tomes, this will put you on the path to being a card-playing machine.

Vampire Crawlers is available now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
