A24 and Bandai Namco Entertainment will release a feature adaptation of the hit video game Elden Ring on March 3, 2028. Alex Garland is writing and directing with Kit O’Connor and Ben Wishaw starring. The film will be shot in iMax and is currently in production.

O’Connor and Wishaw new castmembers include Cailee Spaeny, Tom Burke, Havana Rose Liu, Sonoya Mizuno, Jonathan Pryce, Ruby Cruz, Nick Offerman, John Hodgkinson, Jefferson Hall, Emma Laird and Peter Serafinowicz.

Peter Rice is set to produce alongside Andrew Macdonald and Allon Reich from DNA, as well as George R. R. Martin and Vince Gerardis.

Garland, a longtime gamer and fan of FromSoftware’s Elden Ring, reportedly made a personal pitch to the game’s publishers, Bandai Namco and FromSoftware.

Released to critical acclaim in February 2022, Elden Ring is an action RPG set in an authentic dark fantasy world, which allows players to head off on adventures within vast environments and dungeons. Created under the guidance of FromSoftware’s Hidetaka Miyazaki, the game is based on a story written by Martin, author of the fantasy novel series, A Song of Ice and Fire, which served as the basis for HBO’s Game of Thrones.

Since its release, Elden Ring has sold more than 30 million copies worldwide and received over 400 Game of the Year awards. It ranks among the highest-rated games of all time, had one of the biggest debuts in Twitch history, and was one of the most searched games on Google solidifying its place as both a commercial success and a cultural phenomenon. Its global community remains highly active, producing lore analyses, boss guides, fan art, strategy builds, tips, and uncovering hidden secrets.
