Mobile Suit Gundam has been entertaining and enthralling fans of anime and plastic model enthusiasts for over forty-five years, but not all Gundam shows have had the same level of accessibility as its greatest hits. Thanks to GundamInfo's YouTube channel, though, curious newcomers and aficionados for the franchise can check out 1994's Mobile Fighter G Gundam and 1996's Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team once more. While the release is currently announced as US-only, with viewers in Canada able to access as well, it's still a great opportunity to check out sixty excellent Gundam installments for free.
Mobile Fighter G Gundam and Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team are considered among the best Gundam anime of all time. Each presents idiosyncratic twists to the usual spacefaring combat found in the rest of the metaseries. With each widely available to stream as of November 1, 2024, on YouTube, now's a great opportunity to see a different yet highly acclaimed vision for the franchise. For Gundam fans looking to enjoy this, though, there'll be a limited-time engagement until the end of November.

Iron-Blooded Orphans Streaming Ends Today
Thanks to the latest update from gundam.info, the YouTube availability for Mobile Fighter G Gundam and Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team will run from November 1 to November 30, 2024. Given that the anime has previously had limited streaming periods, such as in 2022, this is nothing new, but it boosts series availability for fans not subscribed to Crunchyroll for G Gundam or Hulu for The 08th MS Team. Additionally, the site confirms that today, November 5, 2024, Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans' second season will end its limited streaming period on their channel.
G Gundam and The 08th MS Team Present Unique Perspectives on the Gundam Franchise
Tournaments, Jungles, and Romance
With the series watch order for Gundam already a reasonable topic for debate, G Gundam and Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team break the mold for the franchise. G Gundam presents a different timeline from the Universal Century with which most fans pre-1994 were familiar. The United Colonies Federation settles Earth's disputes with quadrennial "Gundam Fights," deciding who effectively rules everyone else for each term. Meanwhile, The 08th MS Team presents the perspective of an Earth Federation ground unit during the One Year War.

These shows thus introduce nuance to what is expected of Gundambeyond the typical mecha and space opera trappings. G Gundam inspired much of the future stories from the UC timeline. At the same time, 08th MS Fighter is a fascinating mixture of jungle warfare and melodrama as Shiro Amada of the Earth Federation falls for Aina Sahalin of the Principality of Zeon. While the 08th MS Team lacks its twelfth episode on the YouTube playlist, it nonetheless remains one of the best-animated OVA entries, and along with G Gundam, makes this brief Gundam anime availability a must-watch event.
