EXCLUSIVE: Here’s your first-look at Twice Over, an upcoming romantic comedy starring Mia Wasikowska and Charlie Heaton.
The Australian production, which is directed by Alena Lodkina, follows two people whose unexpected reunion stirs long-buried feelings and unspoken certainties about live, time and reinvention.
Athens-based sales outfit Heretic is preselling the film at the European Film Market next month. The script is co-written by Lodkina with Miles Allinson. Kate Glover and Nathan Lewis produce the project for Never/Sleep Pictures along with Aidan O’Bryan for WBMC and Gregory Jankilevitsch for Mid-March Media. Glover previously collaborated with Heretic on Rebecca Lenkiewicz’s Hot Milk and Romain Gavras’ Sacrifice. Mid-March was also involved in Sacrifice.
“Twice Over combines Alena Lodkina’s distinctive voice with the star power of Mia Wasikowska and Charlie Heaton and we’re very excited to introduce it to buyers at EFM,” said Heretic Head of Sales Ioanna Stais.
Lodkina added: “Every day on set with Mia and Charlie was full of discovery. They are remarkable actors and I consider it a great fortune to have had the experience of working with them and listening to their instincts. It was truly a joy.”
Twice Over was shot entirely in the port city of Fremantle, Australia, while post-production is taking place in Poland through Madants. The project had investment from Screen Australia, in association with Screenwest and Lotterywest. It was financed with support from Mid-March Media, MIFF Premiere Fund, WBMC and Never Sleep Pictures. Exec producers include Klaudia Smieja, Lenkiewicz, Samantha Lang, Lee Hazeldene, Natalie Coleman, Stais and Giorgos Karnavas.
Bonsai is distributing the title in Australia.
Heretic’s EFM slate also include Kai Staenicke’s Trial of Hein, which is screening in the Berlinale Perspectives competition. The company has also co-produced Dust from Anke Blonde, selected for Berlinale’s main competition.
