Claudia Winkleman may be taking too much comfort from her dog in the wake of her eldest children flying the nest.

The Traitors host, 52, made a disturbing confession about her one-year-old King Spaniel, Skip, revealing she not only kisses the canine - but opens his mouth and will 'insert' her tongue.

The mother-of-three made the bizarre admission while speaking to Kathy Burke on her podcast, Where There's a Will There's a Wake.

Asked what publication she would like her obituary to be in, she replied: 'So I have recently got a dog who I am in love with. I mean, I’m going to bore you till your ears bleed. The two [kids] have left home. I didn’t know what to do. I thought I might steal a baby.

'So instead I got a dog, who I treat like….I mean I don’t put him in clothes, but I didn’t know, I’d never had a dog before or any form of animal, but this little dog who I open his mouth and insert my tongue. I do.'

She compared her behaviour to a scene from 1998 film There’s Something About Mary which saw Lin Shaye's character being kissed by her four-legged co-star, Puffy.

Winkleman continued: 'Did you ever see that film There’s Something About Mary, and there’s that old orange lady that goes "lalalalala" with her dog? I was like "That is disgusting!"

'It’s me! Turns out that I’m that lady. I’m like "How did they know?!"

'So I love Skip, love of my life. I look for toys for him, I stroke his ears, sometimes I’ve been known to sing him a lullaby.

'My husband was like "This is too much. Have you had a Bailey’s?" "No, I’ve had a Ribena." He was like "Step away, away from the dog!"'

'She finished: 'So maybe, is there a dog publication? Right, so maybe "Skip's mum has gone." Four words. That would be enough, like a PS.'

It is possible for harmful bacteria, such as salmonella and E. coli, to be passed from a dog to their owner. People with weakened immune systems are more at risk.

Winkleman had made a public plea for a dog to her film producer husband Kris Thykier during her Bafta award acceptance speech in May 2023.

'Thank you to my husband Kris,' she said. 'Please can we have a dog? That's in brackets.'

Claudia was joined by her dog Skip and her family over the weekend as they celebrated the canine 'getting into Harvard'

She previously revealed she wanted a dog to feel the void after her children Jake, 21, and Matilda, 18, left home. Her 13-year-old Arthur has yet to fly the nest.

She made a rare appearance with her husband and their brood in a comical Tiktok video posted on Sunday in celebration of Skip 'getting into Harvard'.

Captioning the clip, Claudia's daughter, Matilda wrote: 'Pretending our dog got into harvard cuz why not'.

The TV personality previously confessed her children beg her to give them some space when she's not busy presenting Strictly Come Dancing.

Speaking to MailOnline, she blamed the 'awful' habit on her former newspaper editor mum Eve Pollard, 76.

'I get on the tube all the time but I’ve never been recognised in my life, never in my life,' she said. 'I’m on there four times a day with my kids...'

'I’m on telly sometimes but only for two months in the year and the rest of the time, I zip around. For the rest of the year, I lick the children.

'I follow them around and I’m a very annoying human being to them.'

'They say, "Mum give us some space," and I say "no". I’m awful. It comes from my own mum.'
