For 12 seasons of Trailer Park Boys, Ricky found unique ways of expressing himself, from jah-la-pah-no chips and sweet empowered chicken to rocket appliances. In an early episode, Ricky clearly states, "I just don't know how to express myself sometimes when I need to be properly different." Constantly in and out of jail and looking for illicit ways to earn a living, Ricky is far from a pillar of the community. Yet, he's the driving force that kept the boys going for years, and his misunderstood maxims made him unforgettable.
30 "I Try To Be A Role Model."
Season 12, Episode 2: "Godspeed My Muscular Friend"
If there is one thing that all Ricky's "Rickyisms" have in common, it is the fact that they are almost always delusional. Ricky sees himself as more than he really is and more than anyone else could imagine when getting to know him. This specific Ricky quote shows that he might be a drug dealer and a criminal at heart, but he thinks that it, in some way, makes him a role model. This quote comes when Ricky is saying kids need to come to him for their drugs.

10 Things You Didn't Know About Mike Smith, The Actor From Trailer Park Boys
From his musical talents to real estate ventures, Mike Smith has had quite a versatile life apart from his turn as Bubbles in Trailer Park Boys.
Ricky claims that he is a role model for all the kids around the trailer park. He said that if any kid there wanted to grow some dope, they should come to talk to him and he will be there for them. "Instead of growing dope six or seven times through denial and error, they're going to get it right the first time and have some good dope," Ricky finishes in this quote. In some way, Ricky feels like teaching kids how to grow their own drugs, or selling them to the kids himself, makes him a role model to them all.
29 "A Link Is Only As Long As Your Longest Strong Chain."
Season 5, Episode 10: "A Sh*tload of Money"
The worst thing in the world is seeing Ricky as the person who gives children life advice. Sadly, since he sees himself as their role model. Luckily, most of the kids have no idea what he is talking about and that is because Ricky himself usually has no idea what he is talking about. In this case, Ricky is trying to explain how a chain is only as strong as its weakest link, meaning everyone has to pull their weight for the group to be at its strongest.
However, Ricky confuses everyone when he gets the entire metaphor all mixed up. While explaining to the kids that they all need to work together, he says, "A link is only as long as your longest strong chain." When the kids all look at him in confusion, he pushes on and tries to explain it further, saying, "I'm just one of the links in the chain, but a link is only as long as your longest strong chain." Everyone was confused by this point, with Ricky seeming to even confuse himself.
28 "You Could Have Prevented A Murder."
Season 1, Episode 3: "Mr. Lahey's Got My Porno Tape!"
If there is one thing Ricky is good at, it's laying guilt trips on his friends to get his way. In the season 1 episode, "Mr. Laney's Got My Porno Tape," Ricky needs to make money or Lucy will leave him, and he finally agrees to be in a J-Roc prono movie called From Russia with the Love Bone. However, things go bad when J-Roc's mother and Mr. Lahey show up in the middle of shooting, and Lahey takes the tape, threatening to show Lucy. Ricky decides he needs to get it back.
It was the only reasoning that Ricky could have come up with in his mind to explain away his actions.
Ricky then calls Julian and says he is going to break in and get the tape back, and he and Bubbles will probably have to kill Mr. Lahey and Randy to do it. He then asks Julian (via the answering machine) for help or he and Bubbles will probably end up in jail and Julian could have prevented it. The entire thought process behind this was ridiculous, and it was the only reasoning that Ricky could have come up with in his mind to explain away his actions.
27 "I Missed Jail This Year!"
Season 10, Episode 9: "Thugged Out Gangast Sh*t"
Eventually, it got to the point where the guys were so used to going to jail that when it didn't happen, it felt like something was wrong. That happened here when Ricky greeted Bubbles and Julian and then made this exclamation. He looked at them and said, disappointingly, "I missed jail this year! Was it awesome?" The fact that he quickly felt he missed something "awesome" by staying out of jail for an entire year says all anyone needs to know about Ricky.
As a matter of fact, Ricky has been in jail 18 different times. This is the record for the most crimes committed by a resident of Sunnyvale Trailer Park, and when looking at his neighbors, that is not something that he should be proud of. These crimes not only included growing pot, which is what most people would expect him to get arrested for, but also things like bootlegging liquor, running an illegal gas station, robbing retail outlets, and even holding up a bank.
26 "That's What Being A Good Dad's All About."
Season 6, Episode 4: "Where in the F*ck Is Oscar Goldman?"
This Rickyism is a case of him having no idea what kind of person he really is. Ricky spends most of his life not caring about his kids' welfare or well-being and doing what he wants to have fun and survive. However, somehow, with this quote, he acts like he is a great father because of his lack of concern and care. Before he says this, he admits he got drunk the night before, smoked dope until five in the morning, and then passed out inside of a sewer pipe.
However, he still gets up early in the morning because he is a "responsible" dad and has things to do. "A lot of people say you can't smoke dope and get drunk when you have kids, but that's not true, you can, but you still gotta get up in the morning," he reasons. He said that is what makes him responsible, finishing by saying, "I'm hungover and burnt out, but that's what being a good dad's all about." That pretty much shows exactly what Ricky is all about.
25 "What Comes Around Is All Around."
Season 1, Episode 3, "Mr. Lahey's Got My Porno Tape!"
Some of the best Ricky Trailer Park Boys quotes deal with Ricky's frequent misunderstandings of common sayings, which is best shown with his usage of "W hat comes around is all around," which makes almost no sense but fits perfectly with his other Rickyisms. What's even better than Ricky's misuse of "W hat goes around comes around" is Trailer Park Supervisor Jim Lahey's drunk correction — "Don't you mean what's all around comes around, Ricky?"
It is especially embarrassing when Lahey points out the inaccuracies of these Rickyisms as he is not only Ricky's sworn enemy but also not exactly the smartest man in the park, either. When one of the least intelligent people on the show corrects someone, that says a lot about both of the characters. Of course, that is what makes Ricky and Lahey, and their whole dynamic, so great.
24 "Where There's Smoke, There's Wires."
Season 8, Episode 9, "Righties Loosies, Lefties Tighties."
There's a cannabis grow-op reference in almost every single one of Ricky's best Trailer Park Boys quotes, which is why he associates wires with a possible fire hazard. In fact, it's likely he has some first-hand experience with this. Bubbles is the star of this episode, "Righties Loosies, Lefties Tighties," partly because of his engineering knowledge, one thing Ricky sorely lacks given his experience with wires.
Ricky's confidence in spouting out such sayings makes it all the funnier that he cannot see how he proves himself equipped for the task at hand. The real saying is, "Where there's smoke, there's fire," but when it comes to Ricky, he knows that faulty wires can cause fires, so he isn't that far off the mark with this humorous misinterpretation of the popular quote. At least in this case, it's all about Ricky showing he is not always wrong with his misquotes.
23 "It's Clear To See Who Makes The Pants Here."
Season 4, Episode 6, "If You Love Something, Set It Free."
In the episode called "If You Love Something, Set it Free," the Trailer Park Boys hunt a mysterious intruder in their pot field. This particular episode is rich in Rickyisms for fans to marvel at. There is the hilarious "fill my feet" instead of "fill my shoes" and "radies" instead of "rabies." Bubbles is there to help out with terms like "samsquanch." However, the gem comes from Rick when Cory and Trevor's current "boss" Sarah prohibits them from working with Julian or Ricky again.
Wanting to insult them for being bossed around so easily, Ricky only once again succeeds in making himself look like a fool. Of course, the real term he meant to say is "It's easy to see who wears the pants around here," which is a misogynistic quote itself that insults women in charge of anything. However, for Ricky, his insulting quote just turns back around on himself since he doesn't even know how to say it right.
22 "Worldy Pipe."
Season 3, Episode 8, "A Sh*t Leopard Can't Change Its Spots."
For longtime stoners like Ricky, everything is associated with cannabis. Even the worldwide web can be comparable through Ricky's unique understanding of the English language. It's a web, a net, so why not a pipe? Ricky uses this particular Rickyism in a number of episodes, and it's a surprise that it hasn't caught on more widely considering how clever it is. He also recognizes that pipes have a million uses, including transmitting data all over the planet.
Of course, it is not at all surprising that a simple man like Ricky doesn't have a full grasp on how the internet works. This is just funny because it shows the inner workings of Ricky's mind, thinking that the internet is a series of tubes, which relate well with pipes and bring his favorite thing back to his mind. It really opens up the world wide web to him, and does it in a way that he understands, even if no one he is talking to has any idea what he is going on about.
21 "Water Under The Fridge."
Season 8, Episode 1, "Money Can Suck My C**k."
Ricky isn't a country boy; he lives in a trailer park. He knows more about household water leaks than scenic bridges over rivers, which explains his frame of reference in this classic Rickyism. In this particular episode, "Money Can Suck My C**k," the protagonists all have separate business ventures going. When Ricky wants to forgive something, he wants to say it is like "water under the bridge," meaning he is moving on. Of course, he gets the words mixed up and thinks it is under the "fridge," which has another meaning completely.
There are times when the characters have to work together and forget past grievances in the Trailer Park Boys mockumentary show, which extends to the film crew that they have to work with, who managed to trick Ricky into signing the Boys up for more seasons of the show. It is an interesting bit of storytelling addressing the documentary aspect of the series that is largely ignored, paired with a hilarious quote about forgiveness.
20 "You Can Go To College And Get Your Little PFD..."
Season 1, Episode 2, "F*ck Community College. Let's Get Drunk and Eat Chicken Fingers."
After yet another stint in jail, Julian hopes to turn his life around and contemplates attending college, prompting this Rickyism. Ricky, who famously struggles to complete his Grade 10, is against it, as he's worried that Julian's departure could put his schemes in serious jeopardy. The two argue over their futures, and, in true Ricky fashion, he hits Julian with "You can go to college and get your little PFD or whatever the f*** it's called, I don't care."
The irony here is that, while Ricky doesn't seem to know what a Ph. D. is, he definitely doesn't know what a PDF is, either. It is a hilarious reminder that a little more education wouldn't be such a bad idea for the Trailer Park Boys character. It is clearly a moment where Ricky doesn't want people to move forward in life, ahead of him, and he lashes out at them. When he says things like this, it's clear he has plenty to worry about when getting left behind if any of his friends want more out of their lives.
19 "Passed With Flying F***ing Carpets."
Season 4, Episode 7, "Propane, Propane."
In the episode "Propane Propane," the Boys need a truck for the upcoming weed harvest. In a race against time, they have to get their illegal crop out before law enforcement finds it. They make a mistake when they send Cory and Trevor to steal an appropriate vehicle, and they return with a propane tanker. The only one who can drive it is Bubbles.
The episode contains several great Rickyisms, but none beat his misguided attempt to lie about Bubbles passing the license test. The fact that Ricky doesn't even question the use of flying carpets in this saying suggests there aren't too many tests he would pass, either. This is just funny because while Ricky gets "colors" and "carpets" mixed up, he at least got the entire idea of "flying carpets" right, since those are actually a thing in fictional settings that people can "drive."
18 "Hang Your Horses."
Season 10, Episode 7, "Up In Smoke We Go."
A funny combination of "hang on" and "hold your horses," both of which have the same meaning: "W ait." This episode, "Up in Smoke We Go" features several celebrity cameos, including Tom Arnold, Snoop Dogg, and Doug Bensen, and contains one of the funniest Rickyisms. Even with the star-studded lineup, Ricky continues to steal the show as he incorrectly uses this phrase to stifle any impatience from others.
Ironically, if Ricky had taken a little more time to consider what he was saying before he said it, he likely wouldn't have made so many errors. This is a nice way to look at when Ricky makes all these comments. He wants to express himself and usually wants to make a point to someone, but he isn't patient enough to take the time to gather his thoughts before blurting out something. Of course, if he did, Rickyisms wouldn't exist and that would eliminate what makes the character so popular.
17 "Atodoso/I-toad-a-sew."
Season 5, Episode 2, "The Sh*t Puppets."
It can sometimes be difficult to understand some of the Trailer Park Boys Rickyisms, and even his best friends Bubbles and Julian occasionally have to work some magic to interpret his sayings like when he smugly let them know he was right. Normally, someone would say "I told you so" to hold something over their friends' heads, but it can be difficult to get that point across when Ricky's brain jumbles all of his words together into a quick mess like "Atodaso/I-toad-a-sew," one of the best running Trailer Park Boys jokes.

Why Lucy Left Trailer Park Boys After Season 10
Lucy (Lucy DeCoutere) left Trailer Park Boys after 10 seasons and several spinoff movies. Here’s why she left the cult classic mockumentary sitcom.
This really explains all of the character's Rickyisms, as he is so excited or interested in getting his point across before anyone else can say anything that he never gets his words, quotes, or terms right. In this case, it was even different because instead of getting two things mixed up like "Wait" and "Hold your horses," he just jumbled up the entire sound of the word and can't even get it out right.
16 "Looks Like A Tropical Earthquake Blew Through Here."
Season 2, Episode 1, "What In The F*ck Happened To Our Trailer Park."
When the boys return to Sunnyvale during the season 2 premiere, they discover that it's in a state of total disarray, bringing in this Rickyism where he comes up with an entirely new weather event. Had Ricky stuck with either a tropical storm or an earthquake, his assessment of the state of the park would have been quite accurate, which is certainly a rarity for him.
However, Ricky got greedy with his wording, forcing the two concepts together and making yet another foolish statement that an adult should know better than to use. Of course, there is always the chance that Ricky doesn't actually know the difference between an earthquake and a hurricane, or any other weather disaster for that matter. For Ricky, the word "tropical" is likely just something he heard before a storm term and he just threw out the first major weather event he could think of to go along with it.
15 "How To Get Bourbon Stains Out Of Ka-Hickey Pants."
Season 3, Episode 2, "Temporary Relief Assistant Trailer Park Supervisor."
In season 3, Mr. Lahey begins looking for a candidate to temporarily replace Randy as Assistant Trailer Park Supervisor, and Ricky is eager to earn the job, prompting one of the best Ricky Trailer Park Boys quotes. The partnership between these two enemies is immediately a bad idea, especially with Lahey's rather unusual idea of what is needed for the position.
He's befuddled by some of the questions on Lahey's aptitude test, blurting out, "How to get bourbon stains out of ka-hickey pants? This is f*****, Lahey." Clearly, the question was about getting bourbon stains out of khaki pants but seeing the word on paper confused Ricky to no end. It is also confusing as to why this was a question on the aptitude test and what it had to do with the park supervisor's job. Remarkably, Ricky gets the job, perhaps as a sign of how few people wanted to actually work with Lahey.
14 "Two Turnips In Heat."
Season 10, Episode 1, "Freedom 45?"
There are a few funny Ricky quotes in the Trailer Park Boys episode, "Freedom 45?", in which the characters make another attempt at early retirement. Another example is "Whole different kettle and dish." This hilarious mispronunciation of root vegetables, however, is the best of them all. Only Ricky could take a simple phrase like "turn up the heat" and make it about plant mating practices.
Once again, it is baffling that Ricky assumes there is a scenario in which turnips would be in heat, let alone that this commonly used phrase refers to that. It is yet another strange glimpse inside this man's mind. There is also the case that this is just Ricky blurting something out faster than his mind can process it, which isn't hard in his case. However, the idea of Ricky saying "Two turnips in heat" just took on its own life and became one of the best Trailer Park Boys quotes to repeat.
13 "Knock Knock."
Season 2, Episode 2, "Jim Lahey Is A Drunk B*stard."
Often directed at poor Jim Lahey, everyone got the butt end of Ricky's "Knock knock" opener at some point. Sometimes it's followed by an actual reply; other times, the retort is simply two extended middle fingers or the expletive, "F**k off" (which is honestly his most used knock-knock joke in the series). There are fierce debates online about Ricky's best knock-knock jokes, with favorites ranging from short and simple to long ranting lectures.
He seems to have one of his unique knock-knock jokes on hand for every occasion. With each new one, it becomes more and more clear that he simply does not understand the construct of a knock-knock joke. However, whenever he gets ready to tell a new one, it has everyone wondering if it will just be a classic putdown or if he will go rambling on about something ridiculous or insulting, and this is usually when he is attacking Lahey himself about his incompetence.
12 "What Julian Doesn't Grow Won't Burn Him."
Season 4, Episode 7, "Propane, Propane."
There are several memorable Rickyquotes in the iconic Trailer Park Boys episode, "Propane, Propane," which focuses on a Snoop Dogg concert, among other interesting bits of local drama. This one is so apt it makes fans wonder if Ricky's little euphemisms really are accidental. Both Ricky and Julian have had their own issues with the law, partly because of the plants that they grow, so this makes more sense than the actual saying, "What he doesn't know won't hurt him."
In this case, it is actually on point, too. If Julian isn't growing something illegal, nothing will come around to burn him in the end, especially from the law enforcement agencies. That makes this one of the best Rickyisms because it is a quote that actually does make sense when it is broken down. It is also funny that Julian is often seen as the responsible and rational one of the group by default, even though he is a deeply immature grown man in his own right, and Ricky might be to blame.
11 "Survival Of The Fitness, Boys."
Season 7, Episode 6, "We Can't Call People Without Wings Angels So We Call Them Friends."
Ricky, Julian, and Bubbles (who has his own funny quotes) aren't always working alone in their various endeavors, as they frequently have the assistance of other characters like Cory and Trevor in the earlier seasons and Cory and Jacob in the later seasons. However, some of the storylines with Cory and Trevor bring about the best Trailer Park Boys Ricky quotes, as Ricky has no problem letting these hangers-on take the fall for the Boys' schemes.
When the two brainless followers go missing, Ricky is neither concerned nor sympathetic, suggesting it is "survival of the fitness" which is at least a little closer to the actual saying than most Rickyisms. He, of course, meant "survival of the fittest," but when it comes to the two words, they have similar meanings even if one is not as grammatically correct as the other. In the end, this was still a case where everyone knew what he was talking about despite saying the wrong word.
