Tom Cruise still loves Steven Spielberg.

Things didn’t seem quite so harmonious between the worldwide superstar and legendary director after their second movie together, War of the Worlds, under-performed at the box office, leading to reports that Spielberg was upset with Cruise over his weird behavior while doing press for the movie, a bizarre media tour that included the infamous Oprah Winfrey couch jump. 21 years after bringing H.G. Wells’ iconic novel to life on the big screen, Cruise and Spielberg still have not followed up their one-two-punch of Minority Report and War of the Worlds with a third collaboration.

All seems good between Cruise and Spielberg now as the former heaps praise on the latter’s latest sci-fi movie Disclosure Day, while posting images from the screening he attended along with Minority Report co-star Colin Farrell and WOTW co-star Dakota Fanning (via Tom Cruise/X).

Nothing better than a summer Spielberg movie night in a packed theater with friends!” Cruise enthuses in the post. “Steven thank you for all of the hours of joy that you have given us in the cinema!! It has been a great honor and pleasure to have worked with you and to call you my friend.” He continues, “Congratulations to the entire group of artists that created this movie. You were superb. We all loved Disclosure Day!!

Spielberg himself was seemingly not in attendance at this particular screening, but a bust of him wearing one of his signature caps reading “Disclosure Day” was there, as Cruise proudly shows. Spielberg's newest alien thriller has received largely positive reviews from critics, hoisting it to an 82% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Released on June 12, the movie is projected to open with $35 million domestically and over $65 million worldwide.

Cruise’s Spielberg praise comes three years after the star was credited by his War of the Worlds director with saving Hollywood” after the massive post-COVID box office returns for Top Gun: Maverick. Relations between Cruise and Spielberg reportedly became strained in 2005 as the actor turned the WOTW press junket into a series of lectures about Scientology, the alleged fraudulence of psychology, and the dangers of Ritalin, besides acting clownish atop Oprah's furniture.

Spielberg and wife Kate Capshaw were reportedly personally hurt when, in the wake of Cruise's rants, a doctor friend saw his medical practice picketed by Scientology as part of the group's anti-Ritalin crusade. But apparently, bygones are now bygones for the star and director, whose two films together combined to gross nearly $1 billion worldwide.

Cruise's Disclosure Day screening attendance alongside Minority Report co-star Farrell is notable in its own right, as the two also had their problems on the set of that dystopian sci-fi hit, as Farrell related in a 2025 appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. The actor told Colbert he got a little too crazy while celebrating his birthday, and was in no shape to remember his lines the next day on set, a situation that did not sit well with the famously hyper-professional Cruise.

I'll never forget the line that I had that I couldn't get out. It was, 'I'm sure you've all grasped the fundamental paradox of pre-crime methodology.' That was the line that started the scene. "I remember [the crew] coming up and saying, ‘Do you want to go out and take a breath of fresh air?’ And I remember thinking, ‘If I go out and take a breath of fresh air, then I’ll be under more pressure when I come back in to be better.’ And I went, ‘No, we’ll just go through it.' It took 46 takes. Tom wasn't very happy with me. Tom, who I love, was not very happy."

Things seem fine now between Cruise and Farrell, as the pair were all smiles during their screening of Spielberg’s Disclosure Day.
