When you are pondering the implications of today’s Connections puzzle, you may find you need a few clues to help you get from the implications to the solutions. Today felt like it had a medium difficulty, as it was a little tricky for me to solve but not so bad that I got stuck for minutes at a time. It’s an odd place to be, but it means that I now know all the details you need to know to solve the puzzle quickly and without error.
If you want to try a different puzzle out, you should try the NYT’s Wordle puzzle. It is much like Connections, but you will have to place letters instead of words. Place enough letters, and you should be able to guess the word that you are trying to solve. Solving it fast will give you a higher score and more brownie points than solving it with the last guess will. If you are lucky, you will be able to get the solution within just a few guesses.
Today's Connections Category Hints
JANUARY 24 #594
In today’s puzzle, there is a fair amount of misdirect, and the words don’t always share a meaning but are connected by other means. This can cause for some confusion, but players should not be too worried about it as long as they are paying close attention. There is one word that I had some trouble with in particular, but once I got past it, the puzzle became much easier.
- One category is about what you do when something is nagging at you
- One category is about four things that are not always appropriate
- One category is about what you do on a regular basis
- One category is about four words that follow another word in a phrase - that word is something you might use to mend something

Yellow Answers: Revealed & Explained
BROOD |
MUSE |
PONDER |
REFLECT |
This is the category that gave me a little trouble at the beginning. I saw MUSE and PONDER, making me think that I was on the right track. However, I had a harder time distinguishing between BROOD, REFLECT, and STARE. I realize now that STARE is likely the odd one out, but at the time it made a lot of sense, and no other words had that same connotation. That also made more sense later, but it did add to the misdirection. Eventually, I did realize that STARE was the most problematic, and I was able to finish the category.

STARE |
Having completed the previous category, this one would become a little easier. That said, I still wasn’t certain, so I continued on and came back to this one with some of the other choices eliminated. Often, this is the best thing you can do to help you get better results. Once I came back, I was able to look at the options and try to separate things out. In the end, I grouped all of these words because they all seemed rude, and I laughed when I saw what the category name was.

CRAFT |
LINE |
TRADE |
WORK |
This category was the second one I was able to solve. I was confident about CRAFT, TRADE, and WORK being together, but I wasn’t sure about the last word. It took a moment to spot LINE, and I wasn’t certain that it was the right word to pick. However, I also didn’t spot anything that would work better. With some trepidation, I made the guess. Fortunately, it was correct and I was able to finish off this category and move back to the previous category.
Purple Answers: Revealed & Explained
CABBAGE |
NICOTINE |
ROUGH |
SOUL |
This last category I got only because it was the last one to go. I thought CABBAGE and NICOTINE might go together, although I didn’t know why. But for some reason, I did believe that to be the case. Eventually, I was able to just tap all these words and send the guess off, completing the category and the puzzle in one fell swoop. Getting this category felt very impossible ahead of time, so it is nice when you get the others done before the difficult category.
