Ruffle in Connections Categories February 8

Today’s puzzle has an interesting mixture of words, with a variety of different grammatical functions and the way that the puzzle is built could be misinterpreted. I was able to solve it just in time, and I learned a few lessons on the way that could help you figure it out as well. The last two categories I solved ended up being the hardest, but they were not the two hardest puzzles.

  • One category is about words you might find on a certain collectible
  • One category is about the way you might manipulate a specific type of material
  • One category is about four words that are all based on one of the dimensions
  • One category is about four words that come before the same word in a phrase - that word is a general term for something you might ingest

Yellow Answers: Revealed & Explained

BIO

PLAYER

STAT

TEAM

This was one of the last two categories I found, and I thought it was one of the harder ones. That’s likely because I never collected baseball cards myself, but I was able to guess it at the very end. I had some weird guesses among the last 8 words, as I was at first focused on thinking it might be class name abbreviations. This did eventually let me get close enough that I thought TEAM and PLAYER might go together. With that, I got the right combination and was able to finish the puzzle.

SCRUNCH, AS FABRIC

BUNCH

GATHER

PUCKER

RUFFLE

This was the first one I got, and I felt like it was one of the easiest categories. All of these words feel very specific, and their definitions felt exactly the same. Or, if not exactly, close enough that they were very related. It might be my recent obsession with learning how to make my own clothes that tipped me off, but I think this would have been the most obvious category to me anyway even if that wasn’t true. After that, I moved onto what I felt was the next most obvious category.

This was a group of words that all felt fairly well connected because they are all words I would put at the start of a sentence. They are also all connected by time as well, which makes it even easier to put together. I did not think this would be the blue category, and I was then left with the remaining 8 words and no real idea of what they could be. Even my original guess of “class abbreviations” couldn’t be completely right as there were not enough words to finish it off.

___ FOOD

FINGER

JUNK

SOUL

I got this one last, and by that time it was a little easier. I had no idea how SOUL and JUNK would go together, as they felt very different and disconnected. However, upon seeing it with the “food,” it makes so much sense. These words are all food-related, and we love food around here. Not enough to recognize this category, but enough to appreciate it when its unlocked for the good work it is doing.
