Thomas Rhett Gushes Over Daughters & Wife Lauren Akins
Thomas Rhett knows life changes—and he's making those changes with it.
The country star confirmed that he’s starting to lose his hearing in one ear, especially now that he’s spending more time at home with pregnant wife Lauren Akins and their four young daughters. And it ultimately led him to seek medical attention.
“I’m kind of going deaf in this ear a little bit,” he said while gesturing to his left ear during a joint appearance with Lauren on the Feb. 9 episode of Annie F. Downs’ That Sounds Fun podcast. “And so I had to go get hearing aids as a 35-year-old man.”
“I wore them for like a week and I looked at her,” he continued, “I was like, ‘Is this legit what you hear all day long?’”
Lauren, 36, confirmed her husband’s suspicions, sharing, “I can’t think straight, it’s so loud. I was like, ‘Babe, welcome to our life!’”
With four girls at home under the age of 11—the couple share Willa Gray, 10, Ada James, 8, Lennon Love, 5, and Lillie Carolina, 4, and have another baby on the way—Thomas joked that he desperately needs an escape sometimes.
“I’m sitting there, just messing with the functions of my phone. I’m like, noise cancel, noise cancel,” the “Die a Happy Man” singer said. “When I take them out, I’m like, ‘OK, this is normal again.’ But I’m just like, I just stand there, and I’m like, this is insanity.”
“And we do not have a nanny, we do not have an assist, we have nothing… we don’t have a consistent babysitter,” he continued. “Since I’ve been off the road, there’s part of me that is like, ‘When are we going back? Can we just book some dates in March? I don’t care where they are!’”
Jokes aside, the break from touring gave him a new perspective on family life. As he put it, due to his busy music schedule, “I have never been home this consistent in my entire career.”

It certainly comes at a good time as Thomas and Lauren soak up their final weeks of being parents of four, with Thomas confirming his wife of 14 years is due on March 2.
The couple first shared the news about their newest addition in August, posting a video to Instagram, which featured Thomas singing his hit song “Life Changes” with a few lyrical tweaks.
"Well, I was wrapping my head around being a dad," Thomas sang with a guitar in hand. "Big wrench got thrown in the plans that we thought we had. Now Lauren's showing—got one on the way."
"That's five under 10," the singer continued as Lauren caressed her bump and showed off their latest sonogram. "Hey, what can I say. Yeah, life changes. You wake up, ain't nothing the same. Yeah, life changes."
