Studio working to lock things down and work out how breach happened
Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 developers Warhorse, who're also working on a Lord of the Rings RPG, have revealed that they've been targeted by a cyberattack aiming to access their systems and data. The studio are currently working to make sure their locks are all clicked back into place and tolearn exactly how the incident happened.
"Warhorse Studios confirms that it has been the target of a cyberattack," the studio announced a statement posted to their website. "We are working with cybersecurity experts to secure our systems, investigate the incident, and assess its full impact. The attack involved unauthorized access to company systems as well as access to company data. We are coordinating with the relevant authorities as the investigation continues."
"This is a serious incident for Warhorse Studios and everyone affected," CEO Martin Frývaldský added. "Our immediate priority is to secure our systems, establish the full extent of the breach, and take the necessary steps to protect our employees, partners, and community. We are dedicating the resources needed to address this situation and will communicate further information as soon as we responsibly can."
The studio don't plan on offering any further comments until they've got more "verified information" to share, so one would assume we'll next be hearing from them once their investigation's run its course or drawn some concrete conclusions beyond what was outlined in these statements.
That's not too surprising, given Warhorse seem to have potentially gone public about this attack at an earlier stage than, for example, Capcom did with the Capcom ID data breach they suffered the other week. Obviously, no company wants unwanted intruders getting ahold of any of their stuff regardless of what it is, but in the games industry there's the risk of bits of games being leaked prematurely on top of all of the other problems a successful attack could lead to. CD Projekt Red, Insomniac, and Rockstar are among the studios a quick glance back through the archives have turned up as sufferers of cyberattacks or hacks in the not too distant past. In each case, the attack precipitated serious headaches for not just the companies, but the staff working hard to make their games.
It's unclear if this Warhorse cyberattack is any way linked to a recent uptick in AI-enabled hacking, as the world continues to become a less nice place to live by the minute thanks to the tech.
Here's hoping the studio are able to make sure things are secure again quickly and that their workers haven't been affected too badly by this attack.
