Jared's first console was the PS1, wherein he fell for Spider-Man, Spyro the Dragon, and Crash Bandicoot.

It’s official: for the first time in a long time, we’re finally in an X-Men era that can transcend Wolverine, or at least be confident enough to have him play a supporting role. Even the Marvel Cinematic Universe is preparing to shuffle Wolverine onto a stovetop burner in the back for Avengers: Doomsday, and, while it’s possible that he may still appear, no official casting announcement has been made for Wolverine in Jake Schreier’s X-Men movie, suggesting that the rest of the X-Men will be accentuated instead.

That said, Wolverine’s flame hasn’t and never will be extinguished. For instance, Wolverine has several upcoming appearances, including Paul Jenkins’ limited series Wolverine: Origin III - The Dark Age, Jonathan Hickman’s horror-themed series Midnight X-Men, and Chip Zdarsky’s Avengers relaunch. First, though, James “Logan” Howlett has decided to soak up the sun and put some mileage between him and Xavier’s School of Gifted Youngsters on 1407 Graymalkin Lane, Salem Center, Westchester County, New York.

Wolverine Has Brought The Heat To Miami, Florida

In Dan Panosian’s Wolverine: Paradise, having lost Jean Grey, Wolverine is deflated. He decides to take a break from the superhero ruckus and ride his motorcycle to Miami Beach, Florida. As writer, artist, color artist, cover artist, and logo designer for Wolverine: Paradise, Panosian imbues this miniseries with gorgeous orange hues and palm trees that paint a portrait of Miami as sweltering and tropical.

And Wolverine is dressed the part, too. Baring washboard abs, a sculpted chest, and muscle-bound arms wrapped in thick veins, Wolverine’s outfit in Wolverine: Paradise is composed of a black-and-gold fringe-trim vest, with gold markings mimicking the animalistic stripes he traditionally has adorning his costumes, and Elvis Presley-inspired aviator sunglasses.

It’s not as if Wolverine and the X-Men have never left the mansion before, but it’s always nice to see these characters visit a novel or refreshing setting. Miami is certainly a character of its own in this book, distinguished most prominently during the daytime, when the sun is at its peak, and an ice cream cone would be a phenomenal respite amidst the haze of a creamsicle-colored, cloudless sky. Wolverine: Paradise may or may not be drawing influence from Grand Theft Auto’s well, but it’s difficult not to see parallels between this series and the Miami-inspired Vice City atmosphere of Grand Theft Auto 6.

Of course, Wolverine can’t help but be a big softy and a do-gooder, choosing to cut his vacation short in order to lend fellow mutant and X-Man Dazzler a hand. Earlier, Wolverine inevitably and instantly found himself getting into a violent scuffle with men who were trying to rob a lowly ice cream vendor, yet Wolverine refused to pop his adamantium-laced claws, as he truly was trying to enjoy himself and his “holiday” away from the X-Men. Now, Wolverine learns it’s Hammerhead that Dazzler requested his help with.

Plus, there’s an original character named Crucible who’s followed Wolverine all the way to Miami, and whom the limited series is likely going to revolve around. It’s undetermined if he’s a friend or foe, though he did unnecessarily dive in front of Wolverine and get riddled with a wild “BRAKA-BRAKA” spray from Hammerhead’s Tommy gun. The solicitation for Wolverine: Paradise #2 reads as follows:

CRUCIBLE! Miami is in chaos as gangsters move in on DAZZLER’s nightclub residency, and LOGAN will have to do what he does best! But who is CRUCIBLE, and how will this new player figure into WOLVERINE’s destiny? You can be sure of one thing — blood will be spilled before the issue’s through!

Wolverine: Paradise #1 is out now.
