Spider-Man: Brand New Day is starting to swing lower in theaters.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is not only one of the most beloved movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it has also quickly become a record-breaking film for Marvel and Sony alike. Spider-Man: Brand New Day is the 3rd highest-grossing movie of all time with over $2.5 billion, only ranking lower than James Cameron's Avatar and Marvel's own Avengers: Endgame, which recently reclaimed that record through the theatrical release of Avengers: Endgame Encore. While Tom Holland's latest Spider-Man movie has gone on a historical run, it is starting to wind down, and that includes losing hundreds of theaters, limiting how much higher it can climb.
According to Box Office Mojo, Spider-Man: Brand New Day lost 634 theaters from last week to this week. Up until October 8, the Spider-Man movie was playing in 1724 theaters in the United States. That domestic count has since gone down to 1090, and it should only continue to decrease, given that the first MCU movie of 2026 was originally released in theaters all the way back on July 31. Additionally, Spider-Man: Brand New Day's theatrical performance should slow down immensely now that the Marvel movie has seen another exciting release on a different medium.
Credit: MovieStillsDBAfter months of the Spider-Man movie being exclusive to theaters, the Sony and Marvel joint venture is now available for viewers to watch from home. Spider-Man: Brand New Day released on digital on October 6, becoming available to rent or buy at the usual digital storefronts, such as the Prime Video Store, the Apple TV Store, and more. As such, Spider-Man: Brand New Day's loss of 634 theaters came just a couple of days after the MCU movie arrived on digital. With viewers now being able to watch it from home, Spider-Man: Brand New Day's time in theaters is close to an end.
At the time of writing, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is doing well for itself on digital. According to data from FlixPatrol, Holland's new Spider-Man movie currently stands as the most popular movie on the Amazon VOD chart in the United States, with Spider-Man: Brand New Day also ranking #1 on the Apple TV Store nationwide. That is the same position it occupies on Fandango at Home — all of those based on FlixPatrol's reporting. This shows that even though Spider-Man: Brand New Day might finally be losing its hold on theaters, Peter Parker is already dominating another medium.
Helping Spider-Man: Brand New Day is the fact that it became a hit with critics and moviegoers alike, boasting an excellent 90% critics' score based on 438 reviews, with a near-perfect 97% audience score based on over 25,000 ratings. Now, the MCU movie's next major release will be on physical media. Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scheduled to arrive on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, standard Blu-ray, and DVD on December 15. Before that happens, Spider-Man: Brand New Day will still try to climb higher at the box office, and it should have another month to do so, even if losing theaters.
