Ewan oversees the content operation of ScreenRant's gaming output, working with a talented team of writers and editors to cover everything from the latest GTA 6 news to the indie games you need on your radar.

Former Editor of GAMINGbible, Ewan also has words at Kotaku, Den of Geek, NME, and UNILAD. He's appeared on various podcasts, including VGC's and BBC's Let's Talk About Tech.

Just when I think I'm finished with The Witcher 3, they find new ways to pull me back in. With The Witcher 4 on the horizon and rumors of a brand-new official expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt coming this year, news of another ambitious expansion for the beloved open-world RPG has caught my eye.

While the rumored 2026 DLC for The Witcher 3 is said to act as an epilogue that bridges the gap between the last game and The Witcher 4, this new project is a prequel set before Geralt traipses off to Velen to find Ciri/play Gwent and get freaky with Novigrad hookers. It's called The Witcher 3: The Last Sacrifice, and it sounds incredibly ambitious.

The Witcher 3: The Last Sacrifice Is By Fans, For Fans

I'm fully here for it

The Witcher 3 and the Wild Hunt

The Last Sacrifice is being developed by a small team of dedicated fans, but it promises a huge amount of new content. We can expect a brand-new region, new quests, and, perhaps most exciting of all, brand-new Gwent cards. There's nothing I won't do for more Gwent. The project was first announced last year, and while fan expansions like this aren't always guaranteed to see the light of day, frequent updates on social media indicate that The Last Sacrifice is coming along nicely.

Here's a full rundown of features:

  • A completely new region to explore – mountainous terrain comparable in size to White Orchard.
  • Several new quests – offering hours of immersive gameplay.
  • New monsters – presenting unique challenges you’ve never encountered before.
  • Original musical compositions – enhancing the adventure’s atmosphere.
  • Unique Gwent cards – perfect for collectors and fans of the popular card game.

This Should Keep Us Busy Till The Witcher 4

Assuming it launches before then

There's no release window for The Last Sacrifice yet, so there's every chance it could end up releasing after The Witcher 4. That's to be expected, of course. A team of fans working on a project like this could end up taking years. Just look at Fallout London, which was in development for over half a decade. These things take time, and we have to be patient.

For now, you can follow along with the development of The Witcher 3: The Last Sacrifice by heading over to the team's Facebook page or Discord. You might even be able to volunteer to help out.
