The Witcher 3: Dawn Over Kovir Perfectly Sets Up The Witcher 4

With The Witcher 4 currently in development, and even rumors of a potential third DLC for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt which will bridge the gap between the events of both games, the future is looking bright for fans of the CD Projekt RED saga. For the first time in The Witcher history, Geralt will be hanging up his swords and passing the mantle to his surrogate daughter, Ciri, who will become the protagonist of The Witcher 4.

Of course, we were given the opportunity to play as Ciri for a short time in the second half of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, giving us just a taste of her abilities and playstyle. However, with the next mainline installment set to follow her story as an established Witcher, a little more practice would be much appreciated.

Luckily, that is exactly what one fan has achieved with the Dawn Over Kovir mod. Created by Fandera and uploaded to Nexus Mods back in February, this The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt mod offers a brand-new questline for Ciri herself, allowing us to step into the shoes of the fledgling Witcher, and discover a whole new region to explore.

Inspired by The Witcher 4's cinematic reveal trailer, Dawn Over Kovir introduces a brand-new region: The Kingdom of Kovir and Poviss. Set after the events of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, this fan-made questline expansion sees Ciri soon discover that monsters do not just lurk in the forests, they can also exist within people.

Disillusioned with humanity, she balances between compassion and rage. Will Ciri be able to master her anger and avoid becoming a monster herself?

Consiting of around 1.5 hours of gameplay, Dawn Over Kovir features full English localization, and as it was created well before the launch of The Witcher 4, may consist of some overlap when it comes to its story. However, there is no denying that this free-to-download mod creates the perfect way to get a tease of the next main The Witcher entry, whilst also returning to the beloved world of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

Since its release, the Dawn Over Kovir mod has welcomed over 1,000 unique downloads, and some players have taken to Nexus Mods' forum to share their appreciation. "Amazing mod!" One positive review reads. "Thank you so much for all the time and effort it took you to create it. Can't wait for The Witcher 4 release!" Another agreed, adding, "This is amazing! Thanks for all the work to create this."

With the wait for The Witcher 4 expected to take a few more years at least, it is mods such as this that will keep us entertained and hyped in the meantime, and better yet, they are completely free for those who own The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on PC. So, let us see if Ciri has what it takes.
