2027 can't come soon enough for fans of this critically acclaimed British spy thriller, and who can blame them, as it's been two long years since it last aired. Set across multiple European cities, including the United Kingdom, the series is based on Frederick Forsyth's beloved 1971 novel, a major inspiration for Lee Child when he created Jack Reacher and his book series. It also reimagines a 1973 political thriller that earned multiple accolades, including a BAFTA Award and an Oscar nomination, and was ranked among the greatest British films of the 20th century.

Premiering in November 2024, the first season ran for 10 episodes and ended in December. In that season, a highly trained assassin who also turns out to be an elite sniper and a master of disguise is offered his riskiest job following an efficient attack on a high-profile, notorious politician. This job could pay him enough to leave this life for good and finally settle down with his wife and son. But his work draws the attention of a relentless British intelligence officer whose world-class firearms expertise makes her the ideal candidate to hunt him down.

Created by Ronan Bennett, The Day of the Jackal returns with Season 2 in 2027, more than two years after the season was greenlit. In anticipation, TV Insider has unveiled a full cast list, led by Eddie Redmayne, who, as previously announced, will return as the titular assassin, the Jackal. Joining him are Úrsula Corberó as his wife, Nuria; Charles Dance as the Jackal's mysterious employer and billionaire, Timothy Winthrop; and Eleanor Matsuura as the Jackal's liaison to his employer, Zina Jansone.

Who Else Stars in 'The Day of the Jackal' Season 2?

Newcomers to The Day of the Jackal Season 2, which is currently in post-production, include Weruche Opia and Pablo Schreiber in mystery roles. Matt Bomer is also joining alongside Pia Tjelta in her first English-language role. Also surviving the events of Season 1 were Lia Williams as Bianca's MI-6 boss, Isabel Kirby; Chukwudi Iwuji as agent Osita Halcrow; Sule Rimi as Bianca's husband Paul Pullman; Ben Hall as MI-6 agent Damian Richardson; Jonjo O'Neill as Edward Carver; Adam James as Jeremy Whitelock; and Florisa Kamara as Jasmine Pullman. Additionally, David Harrower takes over as lead writer from series creator Bennett, who will remain as executive producer.
