The Serpent EP Preethi Mavahalli is exiting Ben Stephenson’s Poison Pen to launch her own ITV Studios-backed drama label.
Mavahalli is opening Paper Mill Productions next month. Paper Mill will remain in the ITV Studios stable. She had been with former Bad Robot TV boss Stephenson’s Poison Pen almost since its 2022 inception and was working across its ITV shows Adultery and The Dark. Another Poison Pen exec, Luke Woelhaf, has jumped ship to Paper Mill.
Paper Mill will “develop and produce premium scripted content designed for UK and global audiences,” ITV Studios said, with ITV Studios handling international distribution of these shows.
Mavahalli is a highly-regarded UK exec whose past credits include The Serpent, Noughts + Crosses and McDonald & Dodds. She previously worked for Sky Studios and was drama boss at Mammoth Screen.
Mavahalli said: “Almost my entire television career has been as part of ITV Studios so it only felt natural to take this exciting and significant step as part of the family. I’m thrilled to launch this new venture and continue to collaborate with exceptional storytellers and creatives, Julian [Bellamy, ITV Studios boss], and the wonderfully talented team at ITV Studios.”
ITV Studios owns drama labels including Sherlock maker Hartswood Films, Nicola Shindler’s Quay Street Productions and Mammoth Screen.
