When you've been around the block as long as Drew Scott and Jonathan Scott have been, you learn secrets of the trade that you simply cannot wait to share with homeowners. At the same time, the Property Brothers' stars have witnessed how technology and science have evolved, and the way that you can improve the world around you by simply selecting the right items for your home. The kitchen is the soul of a home. It's where you're likely to spend the most time in your life, so it's important to ensure that every item within it is the right one. On their YouTube page, Drew Scott gave a tour of his incredible eco-friendly home. Packed with the best of the best, including solar panels and more, his tour of his and Linda Phan's home embarked on an electrification journey. And there's one item that he firmly believes you must avoid in your kitchen: a gas stove.

Why Jonathan and Drew Scott Go Electric

He shared that people thought they were sacrificing style and aesthetic by getting an electric or induction stove. No need for the classic coils you saw in the past. "We were brainwashed to think that (gas) was better than electric induction ranges," Drew says. "The air quality in our home is already so much better because we're not running a gas range."

Noting how the most important upgrade is how you power a home, Drew explains, "We de-carbonized by getting rid of the old gas range that we had and put in this beautiful induction range." Noting how it can boil a pot of water in half the time, he shares that this range also has major safety elements, which is great when you have kids in your home. Demonstrating how the range needs the metal from the pot to heat, he put his hand on the range to show that it won't hurt you if you accidentally touch it.

Meanwhile, Jonathan echoes his brother's sentiments while speaking to Bloomberg. "Decarbonizing the home is critical because of the human health element. 40% of our energy-related greenhouse gases come from buildings. The future of the home, in my mind, it's much cleaner and much safer." While some homeowners may be skeptical about making the move to electric due to cost, Jonathan notes, "It’s been so expensive. But now the price points have come down a lot." He continued by saying, "The government has rebates and tax incentives that offset cost. In some situations, it actually makes it cheaper than going back to a gas option."

What Are the Pros and Cons of Gas and Electric Stoves

If the Scott twins haven't convinced you yet, HGTV has provided consumers with a handy-dandy article that outlines the pros and cons of both options. As Jonathan Clinton, a Kenmore product manager for Sears, states, "What you have most often determines what you buy."

My mom is the definition of this. She's used a gas stove her entire life, but she's fully aware of the benefits of what an electric stove can do. Her main complaint has been the biggest pro of a gas stove: temperature control. Using an electric stove is like learning how to cook again. However, they are more beneficial when used at lower temperatures. Plus, who doesn't want an easier clean-up? With environmental concerns tied to gas stoves, electric stoves can help save the planet in the long run.

Of course, if appearance is a main priority, it might cause you to lean in a certain direction, but with electric stoves becoming so prominent in modern builds, their sleek design can help bring your kitchen that modern feel. Gas stoves may be cheaper, but in the long run, they're more environmentally friendly. Though the energy that fuels your electric stove may still come from fossil fuels, innovations in wind and solar energy are helping to lessen the negative environmental impact of that energy source. At the end of the day, it comes down to preference, but Jonathan and Drew have certainly made a strong case never to put a gas stove in your kitchen ever again.
