Procedurals, whether they be cop dramas, firefighting thrillers, or medical dramas, remain some of the most popular shows on TV, as they have been for years. HBO Max has released one of the unique takes on the medical drama genre to come in the last few years with The Pitt, which stars former ER veteran Noah Wyle alongside an absurdly talented ensemble of stars. The show was written and created for TV by ER producer R. Scott Gemmill, and each of the first two seasons takes place over only one day at Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center, with each episode covering only one hour. This was viewed as a major gamble in the months leading up to The Pitt’s release, but now it’s known as the part of the show that sets it apart from its competitors.

Almost every network and streaming service has a flagship medical drama, and while many of them have been around longer than The Pitt, they’re all viewed as some of its biggest competitors now. Fox has planted its flag in Doc, the hit medical drama that premiered on the same day as The Pitt last year before returning at the end of 2025 with its second season, which is still ongoing. Fox has already renewed Doc for a third season, positioning the show to continue competing with The Pitt in the coming years as both battle to win the hearts of TV fans. All episodes of Doc are streaming on Hulu in America, but globally, they’ve been added to the HBO Max streaming library, where they’re closing in on Noah Wyle’s territory on watchlists.

When Does ‘The Pitt’ Season 3 Come Out?

HBO has yet to officially confirm a return date for The Pitt Season 3, and this likely won’t be announced until later this year, when production is at a much more advanced stage. Noah Wyle recently confirmed that they were in the stage of writing the third season, but much to the disappointment of fans, he admitted that there wouldn’t be any more romance in Season 3. It’s not only possible, but likely that The Pitt Season 3 will begin streaming early next year, around the same time that the first two seasons premiered on HBO Max. The studio remains committed to ensuring that the wait between seasons of The Pitt isn’t staggering.

Check out both Doc and The Pitt on HBO Max internationally, and watch Doc on Hulu in America.
