Since its creation in 1992, Mortal Kombat has been an incredibly popular multimedia franchise. The fighting video game has a dozen entries that range from arcade classics to modern console releases. Its relevancy has kept it as an IP ripe for adaptation within Hollywood, including multiple Mortal Kombat movies.

After the 2021 film successfully got audiences interested in seeing this world again, Warner Bros. forged ahead with plans for Mortal Kombat II. The movie is set for release on May 8 after it was pushed from a 2025 debut following the studio's great year at the box office. While that positioned the sequel to be a potentially bigger hit, it's also left fans waiting for fresh looks at it longer than anticipated.

Mortal Kombat II's Marketing Has Been Quiet For Months Now

WB gave fans a taste of what's coming with the original Mortal Kombat II trailer, which debuted on July 17, 2025. The footage proved to be plenty exciting, showcasing Karl Urban's debut as Johnny Cage, Scorpion's return, and a lot of violent fights. This should have been the start of the sequel's marketing campaign kicking into high gear.

Instead, Mortal Kombat fans have now gone six months without seeing any new footage. WB showed fresh Mortal Kombat II scenes at New York Comic Con, but it didn't release the footage officially online. Only those who were in attendance were treated to this clip, leaving everyone else hungry for more, specifically in the form of a new Mortal Kombat II trailer.

The reason we've had to wait this long is directly tied to the film's release shift. It was scheduled to hit theaters on October 24, 2025, when the first trailer dropped, leaving only three months between the trailer and the movie's arrival. If that original date stuck, we surely would've received a second Mortal Kombat II trailer in September.

Mortal Kombat II's New Trailer Is Finally Releasing This Month

Once the delay was confirmed in August 2025, any plans for the next trailer's release had to change to fit with the new schedule. Thankfully, that's now been figured out. It's been announced that a new Mortal Kombat II trailer will be released on February 25 at IGN Fan Fest.

That's just what anyone excited for this movie has been waiting for. It will absolutely include never-before-seen footage from Mortal Kombat II that could do everything from teasing exciting character fights to laying out more of the plot. Rather than having only that original trailer to dissect, Mortal Kombat fans can finally dig into more footage to craft theories, find Easter eggs, and more.

The new trailer is coming three months before the new release date, effectively following the same timing as the original trailer's release. And with six months passing between getting any sort of footage, its up to this second Mortal Kombat II trailer to reignite conversations about the film. I'd expect something that really sells the film as a can't-miss summer blockbuster.
