The Marvel Cinematic Universe has officially introduced its own version of the Spot from Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. This introduction came in the MCU's Wonder Man, the latest of the franchise's Disney+ efforts. While it remains to be seen how, and, indeed, whether at all, Wonder Man will tie into upcoming MCU movies, it possesses a lot to like.
For instance, the eight episodes of Wonder Man contain Easter eggs galore, both to the wider MCU and the comics on which the franchise is based. Some of these Easter eggs relate to Wonder Man's powers, as well as the other superheroes introduced via the unique story. One of these heroes has an entire episode dedicated to him, becoming the MCU's version of Spider-Verse's Spot.
Wonder Man Episode 4 Introduces A Bizarre MCU Superhero
A big element of Wonder Man's entire story is Simon Williams' attempts to hide his superpowers from those around him. The reason for this is the fate of DeMarr "Doorman" Davis, a former bouncer who gained superpowers after touching waste material from the Roxxon Corporation.
DeMarr was friends with Josh Gad, who used his Hollywood connections to make DeMarr a star known as Doorman. DeMarr's powers allowed him to turn his body into a portal, which came in handy in both his personal and professional life. However, things go badly when Josh Gad disappears into DeMarr.
After this, the "Doorman Clause" was introduced in Hollywood, which stops any superpowered individuals from being cast in any movies or shows. This is how DeMarr's story ties back to Wonder Man's central story, with Simon trying to avoid a similar incident. Doorman is a relatively obscure character from Marvel Comics, making it all the more surprising that he has been introduced to the MCU.
Wonder Man's Doorman Is Very Similar To Across The Spider-Verse's Spot
In many ways, Doorman is similar to Spot from Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. The villain is able to transport himself through the portals on his body, as seen several times throughout Across the Spider-Verse. Despite Doorman being a Marvel Comics character in his own right, the depiction of his powers in live-action is very similar.
The portals that Doorman uses lead to a dimension with several other doors, which is very similar to the portal realm Spot finds himself in. Thanks to how this is shown, the MCU has its very own version of the Spot.
Will Doorman Appear Again In The MCU?
After Wonder Man introduced Doorman, the question of whether he will appear again in the MCU is a pressing one. That said, it is unlikely that DeMarr "Doorman" Davis will appear in the MCU again in the future; Doorman's story was a unique one in an already unique Disney+ show.
Wonder Man is one of the most different stories the MCU has ever told, with Doorman's backstory emulating that. The episode was a fun, meta way of exploring the distinct section of the MCU that Wonder Man inhabits, as opposed to a big introduction for an MCU mainstay. As such, Doorman's story is unlikely to extend beyond Wonder Man.
