It's been a while since we've seen Dr. Seuss's The Grinch. The last movie debuted in 2018, and a video game arrived in 2023, but considering the character's popularity, it's a bit of a nice surprise that everyone's favorite Christmastime curmudgeon will be making a comeback with The Grinch 2: Saving Christmas later this year. And it's arriving in September, just ahead of the holiday rush, so the timing is pretty much perfect.
Despite a reboot attempt in 2018, a follow-up film never happened. Likewise, a sequel for Jim Carrey's How The Grinch Stole Christmas has seemingly never been in the works, even if fans have requested it often. Thankfully, for anyone who played the 2023 video game (or simply knows the classic story already), there's an official continuation happening thanks to the upcoming video game The Grinch 2: Saving Christmas.
The Grinch 2: Saving Christmas is an upcoming release from Outright Games and Dr. Seuss Enterprises. It's a brand-new adventure and platforming game that'll be launching on consoles and PC. The video game will be released on September 18, 2026, on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
The Grinch 2: Saving Christmas follows the events of the books, movies, and first game. Now that the Grinch loves Christmas, he and his dog Max go on a mission to create the best Christmas tree Who-ville has ever seen. This kicks off the new 3D adventure, as players control the Grinch across various missions.
According to the official press release for The Grinch 2: Saving Christmas, players will explore the Grinch’s Cave, the slopes of Mt. Crumpit, and the streets of Who-ville as they collect ornaments, uncover secret paths, and take on platforming challenges. It also teases vibrant, snowy environments along plenty of festive locales. The game can be experienced solo or in local co-op, as players take on the roles of both the Grinch and Max.
The game is designed for all ages, and it looks like a great family video game to pick up for the holiday season. It's been almost seventy years since Dr. Seuss's How the Grinch Stole Christmas first released, so it's cool to see the iconic holiday character getting a brand-new adventure that follows events we've seen in the book, two movies, and the television special.
Pre-orders begin soon, and if you want to get a headstart on the 2026 holiday season, be sure to pick up The Grinch 2: Saving Christmas this September.
