There may be no 2026 blockbuster that we know less about than “Disclosure Day.” Steven Spielberg‘s upcoming UFO film is one of Universal’s most anticipated releases of the summer, with an A-list cast that includes Emily Blunt and Josh O’Connor. But it didn’t have a title or a plot summary until it dropped its first teaser in December. When you have the man who invented the modern blockbuster directing an original sci-fi project about some of his favorite subject matter (aliens!), the work can speak for itself.
Now, timed to the biggest television event of the year, Universal is giving audiences their most in-depth look yet at the mysterious movie in a new trailer that aired during Super Bowl LX. It has all the makings of another swing for the fences from Spielberg, with the studio he’s won 17 Academy Awards for betting on the beloved American filmmaker to deliver another “Close Encounters of the Third Kind”-level hit.
Based on Spielberg’s idea, the screenplay was written by frequent collaborator David Koepp. A cryptic synopsis released by Universal reads: “If you found out we weren’t alone, if someone showed you, proved it to you, would that frighten you? This summer, the truth belongs to seven billion people. We are coming close to … Disclosure Day.”
Appearing alongside Blunt and O’Connor, the cast includes Colin Firth, Colman Domingo, and Eve Hewson. Many of Spielberg’s routine creative partners worked on the film, including director of photography Janusz Kamiński, producer Kristie Macosko Krieger, and composer John Williams, who walked back his plans to retire after scoring “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.”
“Disclosure Day” marks Spielberg’s fifth collaboration with Koepp, who previously wrote “Jurassic Park,” “The Lost World,” “War of the Worlds,” and “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.” Koepp also returned to the “Jurassic Park” franchise after a three decade hiatus to write “Jurassic World: Rebirth,” which he explained in a 2025 interview with IndieWire.
Universal Pictures will release “Disclosure Day” in theaters on Friday, June 12. Watch the trailer below.
