Warning! This article contains spoilers for The Day of the Jackal season 1, episode 9.

The penultimate episode of The Day of the Jackal (2024) sees Jackal get into his most precarious situation yet, as he finally takes down Ulle Dag Charles, but he's not out of the woods yet. Jackal (Eddie Redmayne) has been chasing UDC for most of the series, and despite his meticulous planning and care, he has been thwarted in previous attempts. With Jackal's personal life falling apart, and the police and special forces on his tail, it seems more likely than ever that the Jackal will not survive this job.

After his failed attempt in Tallinn, Estonia, Jackal has gon home to recover and make a new plan. It's the first time in a while that he has seen Nuria, and he lets her know that he has almost finished the job. However, Nuria is also distraught due to her brother's dealings with a known mobster in their city. Meanwhile, Bianca (Lashana Lynch) has been told to stop her search, which seems to be an extremely bizarre choice for MI6 considering how far they have come towards capturing the Jackal.

The Jackal Pulled Off The Hit On Ulle Dag Charles

Jackal Managed To Complete The Biggest Job Of His Career

The Jackal has clearly been backed into a corner. With the stress at home and his relationship falling apart, the job to take down UDC had proven more difficult than he could have imagined. Despite this, the $100 million cash reward is too much to pass up, and he will likely try to start a new life with Nuria after completing the mission. So, hastily, he takes a boat out to the water, kills the owner of the boat, kills the man that could harm his brother-in-law, and then rushes on to take out UDC.

Day Of The Jackal Season 2: The Jackal's Next Mission Teased By EPs

Executive producers of The Day of the Jackal tease where Eddie Redmayne’s assassin is headed in season 2 and what to expect from the next mission.

This plan is a desperate one, and Jackal will definitely need to be on the run, considering how close he has come to being captured. While on the boat, drones watched the boat as it hovered nearby, and despite Jackal jamming the signals and killing the drones, the boat was recognized as belonging to a local. After successfully assassinating UDC, Jackal speeds away in a boat, with several others chasing close behind, and it feels less certain that he will make it out of this task alive and free.

Will The Jackal Be Able To Escape With Security Right Behind Him?

The Jackal Is So Close To Being Captured

Right now, the Jackal is being hunted by private security hired on behalf of UDC, and very likely local law enforcement, but the people who had the most information on him have abandoned their mission. Bianca's determination was ignored, and punished, by the MI6 higher ups, shutting down the investigation. However, considering how pivotal Bianca has been in the series up to now, there is no way she won't be back for more in the final episode.

It also seems as though there is clear manipulation of the MI6 by the elites who hired Jackal, which seems to be their way of ensuring that he gets the job done before they capture him. All of that said, there is now a bloody trail, plenty of evidence, and more suspicion than ever surrounding the Jackal, with a trail that will likely lead directly to his home and family. His only chance at getting out, is getting there first, and taking his family far away from their beautiful home.

Will Jackal Keep His Word To Nuria?

Jackal's Home Life Is In Despair

Jackal clearly has some complicated morals, killing for money, and doing a number of things that his wife would be very disappointed to learn about in the name of the mission. While he clearly appears to be committed to his wife, he has become more reckless and desperate as the control has slipped out of his hands. He already promised his wife, Nuria, that the job he was working on in Tallinn would be the last, but since that failed, he has had to go back on his word and say that he still has just one more thing to do.

He has now completed his mission, but there is a chance that his benefactors may choose not to pay. If that happens, Jackal is out $100 million, and as seen earlier in the season, he does not allow clients to avoid paying their debts. But, with Nuria being aware of his blood-soaked history, it seems that Jackal will be in serious trouble in The Day of the Jackal finale.
