The Boys season 5 trailer hinted at some big moments to come in the final installment of the Amazon Prime Video series, and one quick character moment is a reminder of which Supe actually has the power to kill Homelander (Antony Starr). Season 5 of The Boys looks like it will waste no time getting the gang back together.
As the final season of the long-running series, it's almost inevitable that there are going to be some major deaths at the end of eight episodes. The last of these is likely going to be Homelander, the arch-villain dressed as the lead hero. Killing him won't be easy, but there's one character who has the power to do it.
The Boys Season 5 Trailer Confirms Marie & Others From Gen V
It's not just all our series regulars returning to The Boys season 5; the latest trailer also shows that at least some of the Gen V cast will be involved in the events of the final season. In the trailer, Starlight (Erin Moriarty) is seen recruiting Marie Moreau (Jaz Sinclair) and Jordan Li (London Thor and Derek Luh).
We already saw a version of this scene at the end of Gen V season 2, so that it's being pointed out again suggests the Gen V cast will have a significant role to play. Marie's ability to weaponize and manipulate blood and Jordan's dual indestructible and energy blast powers would absolutely be helpful in a fight against Vaught.
The end of The Boys season 4 saw several Godolkin University students siding with Homelander. However, the end of Gen V season 2 sees Cate Dunlap (Maddie Phillips) and Sam Riordan (Asa Germann) joining with Starlight and A-Train (Jessie T. Usher), so it seems like it's going to be almost everyone vs. Homelander, and even that might not be enough.
Marie Can Kill Homelander, Especially After Gen V Season 2
It's always been assumed that Homelander is the strongest Supe there is. Even his biological father and inspiration, Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles), needs a powered-up Hughie (Jack Quaid) and Butcher (Karl Urban) to get a shot at blasting him, which isn't even certain to work. The one who could theoretically beat him is Marie.
Gen V season 2 expanded on Marie's powers, and it's now clear she's not just another version of Victoria Neuman (Claudia Doumit), who can also control blood to an extent. Marie seems to be able to manipulate blood at the atomic level and even bring people back to life. It's a power we haven't seen before.
Stan Edgar (Giancarlo Esposito) even says in Gen V season 2 that Marie and Homelander were the Odessa Project's only successes, putting them at the same power level. Marie's ability to manipulate blood could be how the heroes get around Homelander's physical defenses. Homelander may be as susceptible to a blood clot as the rest of us.
How The Gen V Gang Change The Dynamic In The Boys Season 5
The students of Godolkin University appearing as heroes in The Boys season 5 will change things for the series. Supes have slowly been becoming a greater part of the "resistance" against Homelander over four seasons, but it's always been a tricky subject, considering Butcher wants them all dead.
The blurred line between those who hate Supes and Supes who won't abide Vought and Homelander becomes even more blurred when Butcher takes Compound V. Now, we have a whole team of Supes who were raised with powers from a young age, standing up against the people who made them who they are.
This will change the dynamic at play because now some Supes will actually be doing the thing that Butcher and his crew accused Homelander of pretending to do: save the world. So a big question is, what will happen once Supes prove they can be heroes? Will they be allowed to remain Supes?
Will The Boys Season 5 Really End With Marie Killing Homelander?
So Gen V is crashing into The Boys, Godolkin students are on Butcher's side, and Marie and her blood-bending are here, but all that doesn't necessarily mean Marie will be the one to kill Homelander. For one, we still don't know the full extent of her powers, and the show could say Homelander's blood is as powerful as he is.
The bigger reason why it's unlikely that Marie will kill Homelander is that many fans of The Boys probably don't even know who Marie is. Gen V has always been supplemental to The Boys, and The Boys is a much more popular show, so many viewers probably haven't seen Marie.
It would be odd if the main antagonist of the series were killed by a character only introduced in season 5. However, The Boys does like to eschew expectations, so maybe Homelander's demise will come at the hands of someone he never would have expected. Maybe Marie has been the missing piece all along.
