City Year Los Angeles will honor “Project Hail Mary” filmmakers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, along with education leader Pedro Noguera, at its 15th annual Spring Break Gala on April 25 at Universal Studios.
The duo behind major franchises including “Spider-Verse” and “The Lego Movie” will be recognized for their contributions to storytelling and their impact on younger audiences. Actor Jake Johnson is set to present Lord and Miller with their awards during the event.
The evening will be hosted by content creator Juju Green, also known as Straw Hat Goofy, marking his second year emceeing the gala. Noguera, who serves as dean of the USC Rossier School of Education, will deliver the keynote address, with a musical performance from Allen Stone.
“Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are true embodiments of the values we champion at City Year Los Angeles,” Executive Director Bill Thompson said in a statement. “Through their creative storytelling in the Spider-Verse and The Lego Movie franchises, and their latest blockbuster film, ‘Project Hail Mary’, they have inspired a young generation to believe in their own potential and to take chances on the opportunities presented to them.”
The Spring Break Gala serves as the nonprofit’s signature fundraiser, supporting students, schools and AmeriCorps members across Los Angeles. Known for its more casual, after-party-style format, the event typically draws more than 600 attendees from across entertainment, business and education.
City Year Los Angeles, which is approaching its 20th anniversary, currently partners with 24 schools across the region, providing academic and mentorship support to students in under-resourced communities.
