The world of The Boys isn’t exactly running short on chaos right now, but one big question is still hanging over one of its most successful spin-offs. While fans continue waiting for more news on what’s next for Gen V, it sounds like the people behind the show are doing the exact same thing. Collider’s Steve Weintraub recently spoke with Eric Kripke ahead of the Season 5 premiere of The Boys, and naturally, the conversation turned to the status of Gen V Season 3.

Unfortunately for fans, Kripke didn’t exactly offer the kind of update fans were hoping for, but he was clear about where things stand at the moment. "We're still waiting to hear, you know, the answer is there's no real update at the moment," he told Collider. "You know, sometimes it takes them a while to make a decision, and we haven't heard a no, but we haven't heard a yes either, so you know, no update." That’s frustrating, sure, but it’s not bad news either. The key part here is that Gen V hasn’t been turned down. At the same time, it also hasn’t officially been given the green light to continue. So for now, the show is stuck in that familiar TV limbo where everyone is basically waiting on the same call.

What Is 'Gen V' About?

Set at Godolkin University, the series expanded the world of The Boys in a way that actually felt worthwhile, introducing a younger group of supes while keeping the franchise’s usual mix of brutality, satire, and deeply messed-up power dynamics. Collider's review of the show, written by Aidan Kelley, said that Gen V Season 2 succeeds at doing everything it needs to do. It follows up on Season 1’s ending, sets up the final season of The Boys, and finds a thoughtful way to keep going after the loss of Chance Perdomo. That alone is a lot to carry, but the show handles it well.

"While Season 2's overly gross moments are starting to feel more and more juvenile, the things that Gen V is trying to say about our current world are anything but," wrote Kelley. He continued, saying, "Watching college students navigate a society overrun by fascist ideology and plagued by rampant political violence makes the fantastical world of The Boys feel eerily similar to our own. Couple that with well-written characters who are easy to care about and a sense of urgency for this wider universe, and Gen V Season 2 is an admirable new chapter as The Boys races towards its final bow."

Gen V streams on Prime Video. Stay tuned at Collider for more on The Boys, which returns with its final season on April 8.
