The Best 7 Movies On Netflix In December 2024

Netflix still has several holiday flicks on the way before 2024 ends and Christmas fades away. Richard Curtis’ book-based animated film That Christmas, directed by Simon Otto, arrives early on in the month, and Sabrina Carpenter has a musical holiday comedy special also out early in December.

Angelina Jolie’s portrayal of opera singer Maria Callas, which is generating a lot of awards buzz conversation, arrives Dec. 11. A Christmas-set thriller Carry-On will be available starting Dec. 13, and Tyler Perry’s film The Six Triple Eight, which is based on real life events and figures, will be out Dec. 20.

Adapted from Richard Curtis’ (Love, Actually, Notting Hill) childrens’ books, That Christmas contains a beloved ensemble cast like Curtis’ other films. Santa Claus (Brian Cox) tells the story, set in Wellington-on-Sea as a big blizzard wreaks havoc one Christmas. Santa recalls the gifts he gave and how he helped fix some problems in the animated adventure. Ed Sheeran wrote a song for the film, out on Netflix Dec. 4, to accompany Kelly Clarkson’s “Underneath the Tree” and other festive hits.

A Nonsense Christmas with Sabrina Carpenter – Dec. 6

A Nonsense Christmas with Sabrina Carpenter is more of a holiday comedy music special than a movie, but the runtime makes it a similar watch. The Taste singer performed songs from her holiday EP Fruitcake like “Buy Me Presents” and “Cindy Lou Who” as well as classic Christmas songs like “Santa Baby” and “Last Christmas” as duets respectively with Shania Twain and Chappell Roan.

It Ends With Us – Dec. 9

Released in theaters in August, It Ends With Us is the highly anticipated film adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s best-selling novel of the same name. The film stars Blake Lively, Justin Baldoni, Brandon Sklenar, Jenny Slate, Hasan Minaj and more. Baldoni also directed the movie, which tells a powerful story of a resilient woman and domestic violence.

Maria – Dec. 11

Directed by Pablo Larraín, Maria stars Angelina Jolie as Maria Callas, a 1970s opera singer living the last days of her life in Paris, where she confronts her life choices and identity. Steven Knight wrote the script of the film, which also stars Pierfrancesco Favino and Alba Rohrwacher.

Carry-On – Dec. 13

A Christmas thriller arrives in the form of Carry-On starring Taron Egerton, Jason Bateman, Sofia Carson and more. Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, the suspenseful story, which follows a young TSA agent (Egerton) blackmailed by a stranger (Bateman)  into letting a dangerous package get through airport security and onto a Christmas Day flight.

The Six Triple Eight – Dec. 20

Tyler Perry’s The Six Triple-Eight is inspired by the real-life story of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, the sole all-Black, all-female Women’s Army Corps unit who served in World War II to sort a big backlog of undelivered mail for U.S. service members in England and France. Kerry Washington stars as commanding officer Major Charity Adams, and Ebony Obsidian and Dean Norris also star. Still more of the cast includes Sam Waterston (President Franklin D. Roosevelt), Susan Sarandon (Eleanor Roosevelt) and Oprah Winfrey (Mary McLeod Bethune), Milauna Jackson, Kylie Jefferson, Shanice Shantay, Sarah Jeffery, Pepi Sonuga, Moriah Brown and Jeanté Godlock.
