A recent announcement from the DC Universe revealed that a film called Dynamic Duo is currently in the works, and some details are available. Another DC animated movie to add to the franchise's considerable roster, the film is not set to focus on the pairing of Batman and Robin but is actually centered around the bond between two different Robins. With the story of The Brave and the Bold set to explore the relationship between Damian Wayne and his father, Bruce, it appears a consistent theme in upcoming DC release is that of the Batfamily and the dynamics between them.
Sidekicks have been a difficult thing to pull off in superhero movies, and Robin may be the most underserved by the industry. While Robin has not been in a live-action film since being part of the Batman & Robin cast, the character has still appeared in animation in a range of theatrical releases. Most recently, Dick Grayson’s Robin appeared, voiced by Michael Cera, in The LEGO Batman Movie. Following this pattern, Dynamic Duo looks to bring a unique animated vision of the Batman sidekick to the big screen once again.

Dynamic Duo - DC's Robin Movie Confirmed & Release Date
Jason Todd And Dick Grayson Will Team Up In An Animated Film For Theaters
Fans will have to wait a little bit longer, as Dynamic Duo will officially be leaping into theaters on June 30, 2028. Still several years away, it will be interesting to see exactly what continuity the animated film will fit into and whether Jason Todd or Dick Grayson are introduced in some other project before their own. Either way, the idea of a Dynamic Duo film on the big screen is quite exciting.
On October 1st, James Gunn took to X to reveal the next animated project from DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures Animation, Dynamic Duo. The film will be written by Matthew Aldrich, who previously worked on Pixar fare including Coco and Lightyear. Gunn was clear to say that the film is intended to be a theatrical release and would focus on the dynamic between the duo of Dick Grayson and Jason Todd, the first two Robins introduced in Batman comics.
As reported in Variety, the film is also set to be produced by Matt Reeves' company 6th & Idaho, although it will not be connected to Reeves' The Batman Universe. Dynamic Duo will be animated by Swaybox, with their co-founders Arthur Mintz directing and Theresa Andersson producing. This will be the first feature film from Swaybox, and will also be produced by DC Studios co-CEOs Peter Safran and James Gunn and executive produced by Michael Uslan.
Dynamic Duo's Story Explained
The Film Will Follow Jason Todd And Dick Grayson Coming To Terms With Their Futures
Dynamic Duo is set to focus on the relationship between a young Dick Grayson and Jason Todd as they explore the ideas about what their future will become. With Dick Grayson set to become Nightwing, and Jason Todd on a darker path to becoming the Red Hood, the film will likely feature a dark and complex conflict between the two. While both characters were important to Batman in similar ways, they each embraced and explored darkness from differing perspectives.
In the comics, Jason Todd first became Batman's young sidekick while Dick Grayson was with the Teen Titans, still wearing the mantle of Robin. Shortly after that, Dick became Nightwing, and Jason took the name Robin from him. It is unclear if the new film will see both heroes taking on the mantle of Robin simultaneously or if the original comic lore will be more closely followed. Regardless, the film will provide a unique look at Batman's partners.
Dynamic Duo Cast
Plenty Of Characters To Include Alongside Dick and Jason
Very little is known at the moment about who will be starring in Dynamic Duo as Dick Grayson and Jason Todd. Still, it's worth speculating which characters could appear alongside the two heroes throughout the film. Besides Dick and Jason, Bruce Wayne feels like an obvious choice to at least appear in some capacity in Dynamic Duo. If they decide to forgo Bruce altogether, he could still appear as Batman. With Batman and two Robins, comes Alfred Pennyworth, who could provide significant emotional support for the two characters he helped bring in and raise.
Another character that might play a significant role in Dynamic Duo is Babara Gordon, also known as Batgirl. Dick Grayson and Barbara have a long, romantic history in DC Comics, and she could be featured in the animated film as currently being in a relationship with Dick, almost in a relationship, or even a past relationship.

I Can’t Believe DC Just Brought Back A 20-Year-Old Teen Titans Mystery We Never Got The Answer To
DC has brought a major Teen Titans mystery that the show never answered back into the spotlight 20 years after its initial introduction.
It's hard to speculate who could be included as villains in Dynamic Duo given how little is known about its place in DCU continuity (or not), and what exactly will be the main narrative of the film. It's possible that the movie will have Dick and Jason go against a lot of street-level criminals instead of an overall big villain. If an important villain is going to be included, though, there is no limit to who it could be.
How Dynamic Duo Is Connected To Other DC Movies
The Film Is Not Connected To Matt Reeves' The Batman Universe
Despite the involvement of Matt Reeves' production company, Dynamic Duo is not connected to the villain-filled The Batman universe that has been further explored in The Penguin. While Matt Reeves was instrumental in creating his own universe, the filmmaker appears to have since been more largely integrated into the DCU. Reeves was planning an Arkham series for the universe. However, that has since been canceled, and it appears that his efforts are being put into other DCU projects, including this one.
It has not been officially announced that Dynamic Duo will take place in the DC Universe. However, James Gunn previously revealed that the plan was for animation and live-action to crossover in the new universe, with Creature Commandos already set to do this with an appearance by Rick Flag Sr. in Superman. With Damian Wayne set to be the focus of The Brave and the Bold, It seems likely that Dynamic Duo and its story about Jason Todd and Dick Grayson will take place in the new DC Universe.
What To Expect From Dynamic Duo's Animation
The DC Film Will Be Animated By Swaybox
Dynamic Duo will be the first feature film animated by Swaybox, an animation studio from New Orleans. The studio looks to innovate how puppetry can be seen on the big-screen by combining methods of CGI animation, stop-motion animation, and live-action performance. This gives their work a distinct look that could contribute to a very original style when used in the DC Universe movie. While the studio has not yet made a theatrical film, their style is very cinematic and unique.
The movie is still in the early stages, and no images of Dynamic Duo are currently available. However, based on the studio's reel, this DC Universe film will likely feature a unique and original style as it explores the background of these two Robins. More information should be available shortly as the DC Universe comes to life in the next year.

Since then, the franchise has exploded with thousands of comic books, movies, TV shows, and video games. 2013 marked the beginning of the most recent iteration of the superheroes, with Zack Snyder introducing Henry Cavill as Superman. After several movies with mixed reviews, DC underwent a soft reboot under the helm of James Gunn and Peter Safran.
