It’s no secret that Disney is responsible for some of the biggest box office hits in history. While it’s easy to think about the many animated hits Disney has produced over the years, the studio is also the proud owner of other conglomerates like Marvel, Star Wars, and 20th Century, all of which have produced some of the highest-grossing hits of all time. Between the first two James Cameron-directed Avatar movies and Avengers: Endgame, Disney is responsible for the top three highest-grossing movies ever, which have collectively earned over $7 billion at the global box office. Disney may not be behind the highest-grossing animated movie of all time in Ne Zha 2, which is the only animated film in history to gross over $2 billion, but it does hold a claim to plenty of notable spots on that same list.
Just last year, Disney premiered the animated hit that went on to become the ninth-highest-grossing movie of all time, Zootopia 2. The film is a direct sequel to the first Zootopia film that came nine years before, and it returned massive stars such as Jason Bateman and Idris Elba. Zootopia 2 first arrived in theaters at the end of November, and by the time it finally closed its doors in theaters, the film had grossed over $1.85 billion at the global box office. This is even more than The Avengers, Avatar: Fire and Ash, and Top Gun: Maverick. After a successful run on VOD platforms like Prime Video and Apple TV, Disney has finally announced that Zootopia 2 will begin streaming on Disney+ on March 11. It’s almost time to bring the magic of the beloved animated film home to your living room.
What Else is Streaming on Disney+ Right Now?
The biggest streaming success story on Disney+ the last few weeks has been Predator: Badlands, the latest Predator hit starring Elle Fanning and directed by Dan Trachtenberg. Its success also prompted its predecessor, Prey, back into the Disney+ global top 10. The most popular show on Disney+ right now is Paradise, the thriller starring Sterling K. Brown and James Marsden that jumped back to the top of charts following the arrival of its second season. Ryan Murphy’s latest series, The Beauty, is also in the top 10 despite the controversial reception.
Be sure to check out Zootopia 2 when it arrives on Disney+ next week and stay tuned to Collider for more streaming updates.
