Solving the case are Olivia Colman’s DS Ellie Miller and David Tennant’s DI Alec Hardy, with the puzzle proving impossibly entangled in the personal lives of the entire community. Unlike other crime dramas of this ilk, Broadchurch is more invested in the devastating emotional aftermath of such a tragedy than the twists and turns the mystery brings. Because of this, Broadchurch becomes a heavy tearjerker on several occasions, culminating in a finale ready to take your breath away. - Jake Hodges

Rotten Tomatoes: 100% | IMDb: 7.4/10

Deadloch
Release Date June 1, 2023
This biting noir comedy from the minds of Kate McCartney and Kate McLennan begins, like the BBC hit Broadchurch, when a body turns up on a beach in the unsuspecting coastal town of Deadloch. Assigned to the case are senior sergeant Dulcie Collins (Kate Box), a woman who was once a detective but demoted herself on the wishes of her wife, and the reckless detective Eddie Redcliffe (Madeleine Sami). The two struggle to get on, with Eddie’s impressive but all-too-obnoxious style certainly grating on the much more steadfast approach of Dulcie, but their differences must soon be put aside when they realize there are many more disturbing and intimidating factors at play.
Quirky, dark, and full of devilishly funny comedic beats, Deadloch is one of many Australian comedy/dramas to have made a worldwide splash in recent years — and perhaps it is the best. Both Kate Box and Madeleine Sami are perfect at toeing the line between gritty emotion and a cheeky wink, with both hilarious comedy and intense drama never far away in any given scene. With its gorgeous cinematography and gripping crime-thriller plot, Deadloch is perfect binge-watching material. - Jake Hodges

‘Elementary’ (2012 - 2019)
Rotten Tomatoes: 95% | IMDb: 7.9/10

Elementary
Release Date 2012 - 2018
Network CBS
Writers Bob Goodman
The iconic duo of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson have been adapted many times, perhaps most famously in the modern-day London BBC version. This adaptation provides even more of a twist on the original Sir Arthur Conan Doyle novels, with Jonny Lee Miller’s Sherlock and Lucy Liu’s Watson cracking the most difficult cases for the NYPD. Any adaptation of this timeless tale hinges on the chemistry between the lead pair, with Miller and Liu oozing it and then some. The duo dances with clever scripts and fast-paced dialogue, and their eccentric, entertaining dynamic is captured beautifully by creator Robert Doherty. Sherlock fan or not, Elementary is a must-watch. - Jake Hodges

The minds of Mitchell and Webb are undoubtedly genius, with their work on British television throughout the 21st century the stuff of legend. Peep Show is their magnum opus, with them and the likes of Academy Award winner Olivia Colman, Matt King, and many others comprising one of comedy’s best ensembles. Innovative, often intense, and always hilarious, there’s nothing else quite like Peep Show. - Jake Hodges

Hannibal
Release Date 2013 - 2014

The series stars the talented Mads Mikkelsen as the infamous psychiatrist, who is paired with FBI profiler Will Graham (Hugh Dancy) to help find serial killers. However, unbeknownst to Graham, Lecter is always scheming and preparing to push his partner to the depths of sanity. Considered one of the best horror series of the 21st century, Hannibal is nothing short of a masterpiece in its genre, managing to bring an unrelentingly chilling atmosphere without ever compromising on story. With each component technically brilliant, prepare for your jaw to drop as this Primetime Emmy-nominated tale whisks you on a wild and frightful ride. - Jake Hodges
