Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Knull #2For years, Thanos wielding the Infinity Gauntlet has been viewed as one of Marvel's all-time cosmic threats. With a snap of his fingers, The Mad Titan reshaped existence itself by erasing half of all life in the universe, both in the comics and in the MCU at the end of the Infinity Saga. However, Marvel has seemingly just handed Thanos an all-new cosmic weapon.
As seen in the pages of Marvel's new Knull series from Al Ewing, Tom Waltz, and Juanan Ramirez, the newly revived God of Void is seeking to reclaim his status as the King in Black once more. However, Thanos debuts in the pages of Knull #2, claiming one of the most powerful Marvel weapons of all time.
Thanos Now Wields The All-Light In Marvel Comics (The Perfect Anti-Knull Weapon)
In this new Knull series, the God of the Void is still very, as he was only just recently reconstituted after Eddie Brock’s reign as the King in Black came to an end. Imprisoned by the Goddess of Death Hela, Knull escaped in the first issue and is now seeking to regain his former power.
In Knull #2, we see the God of the Void returning to the nameless world where he once battled his cosmic opposite: The Enigma Force’s God of Light. Having nearly defeated each other, this is the world where the villain Gorr stole Knull's necrosword All-Black for his crusade against the gods while Knull and the God of Light were both incapacitated.
Now, Knull was seeking the opposing All-Light spear as a form of salvation, possibly intending to corrupt it into a brand-new All-Black. Instead, he arrives too late with Thanos having reached the cosmic weapon first.
As seen on the issue’s final page, The Mad Titan appears as the new wielder of the All-Light, gaining power derived straight from the cosmic Enigma Force itself. Not only is it the perfect anti-Knull weapon, but it's also a terrifying upgrade for Thanos, with the spear likely granting similar powers as the All-Black with the ability to kill gods.
Is The King in Black's Comeback Doomed To Fail?
To make matters worse for the God of the Void, what Knull doesn't seem to know is that he's being manipulated, and that Thanos is in league with Hela.
Revealed in the first issue, The Goddess of Death allowed Knull to escape and wants the former King in Black to seek more power. This is because she's actively siphoning his strength in the hopes of becoming a brand-new Queen in Black, something we know will likely happen considering the upcoming Queen in Black crossover recently announced by Marvel coming this summer.
With Thanos now controlling the All-Light and Hela working the angles, Knull’s attempt to reclaim his power and former title may already be doomed, meaning he may likely have to ascend by other means by finding new sources of power, or Knull will have to try and take the All-Light from Thanos (even in his weakened state).
Regardless of Knull’s fate might look like in the issues to come, the fact that Thanos is now the new wielder of the All-Light is a pretty big status quo shift for the Marvel Universe. It's going to be fascinating to see how he wields it in future issues, as well as how long the spear will be in his possession.
Knull #2 is available now from Marvel Comics.
