Teyana Taylor’s Daughter Rue Gave the Only Actor Awards Interview You Need to See

Teyana Taylor's daughter Rue Rose Taylor Shumpert just won the 2026 Actor Awards.

That's right, the whole show.

Because while Teyana has been enjoying one memorable moment after another this awards season, her most precious one so far came March 1 on the red carpet outside L.A.'s Shrine Auditorium, when she got the sweetest shout-out from her 5-year-old during their interview with Live From E!'s Justin Sylvester.

Or make that her "very expensive stylist," Teyana quipped, referring to how Rue made sure the train on her mom's custom thom browne gown was straightened out before the One Battle After Another star posed for photos. (See all the red carpet fashion right here.)

Already marveling over how poised Rue was on the carpet, Teyana, a nominee for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role, was brought to tears when her youngest child—she shares Rue and daughter Iman "Junie" Taylor Shumpert Jr., 10, with ex-husband Iman Shumpert—took the mic to deliver a very special message.

"I wanted to say," Rue began, "this is such an honor for me being here, and I wanted to thank you guys for my mom and this wonderful day, and all of y'all outfits look very good. And I'm mostly saying this for my mom."

Yes, that's Teyana crying, but it's also you crying.

"This is actually such an honor," Rue added, to which her mom replied, "This is such an honor to be here with you, baby."

Oh, and one more thing.

"And I hope," Rue continued, "when I grow up, I can get a trophy, too."

Her mother assured her, "You will, baby, you will get whatever you put your mind to."

And yet Rue wanted more information with regard to that prediction, wondering, "How do you know that?"

Teyana's answer wasn't "because I said so," but close.

"Because a mother knows, OK?" she told Rue. "You are going to be everything—you're everything right now. And when you get older you're going to collect every single trophy, 'cause it's already yours and it's already written."

Rue still quibbled with the 35-year-old's logic, pointing out, "Mommy, if you win every time, that means you're going to win every day, even when I grow up and I get nominated."

To which Teyana could only reply, "I love you."

"I love you, too," Rue said.

Standing up and blinking back tears, Teyana declared, "This is too much."

Or, just enough.

As if it wasn't already going to be an evening to remember for Teyana, who is hoping to add another trophyor two—to her shelf. Indeed, in addition to her solo nomination, she's also up for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture alongside costars Leonardo DiCaprio, Chase Infiniti, Benicio del Toro, Sean Penn and more.

Teyana previously won Best Supporting Actress at the 2026 Golden Globes. As she dazzled onstage to accept the award in her custom black Schiaparelli Haute Couture gown, she shared an emotional message for her fellow "Brown sisters and little Brown girls" watching the ceremony.

"Our softness is not a liability. Our death is not that," the actress said. "It's not too much. Our light does not need permission to shine. We belong in every room we walk into. Our voices matter and our dreams deserve space."

The achievement wasn't lost on the "Gonna Love Me" singer, who reflected on the journey that eventually led her to gold.

"Thank you @goldenglobes for seeing me, not just in this performance, but in the journey," she wrote on Instagram alongside a snap of herself holding her trophy. "I've been at this for 20 years, so this award doesn't only represent this role… it represents every season, every sacrifice, every yes, every no, and all the love and life I've poured into my work and into others along the way."

She concluded, "Purpose doesn't rush. It arrives right on time."
