EXCLUSIVE: TelevisaUnivision’s streamer, ViX, is setting sail for Europe.

The service will launch in Spain in January 2025, we can reveal, and be available on Atresplayer, Atresmedia‘s streaming platform.

ViX will be offered on Atresplayer with no ads, and offer customers in Spain a library of 15,000 hours of content, live sport from several Liga MX teams in Mexico and an extensive library of Spanish-language telenovelas, comedies and dramas such as La Mujer del Diablo, El Gallo de Oro, El Extraño Retorno de Diana Salazar, Más Allá de Ti and Pacto de Sangre and films including ¿Quieres ser mi Hijo? and Bendita Suegra.

“This partnership with Atresmedia marks a pivotal step in ViX’s expansion strategy, reinforcing our commitment to delivering unparalleled premium content across global Spanish-speaking markets,” said Rafael Urbina, President of ViX. “We are excited to introduce ViX to new audiences in Spain and elevate the streaming landscape with the best of what ViX has to offer to Spanish-speaking viewers worldwide.”

“The Spanish market presents a significant opportunity for ViX to accelerate its growth, particularly in strengthening our presence across Ibero-America,” Urbina told Deadline. “Spain offers unique potential for expanding our platform, and we are well-positioned to seize this opportunity.”

He noted the Spanish audience has a “growing affinity” for the melodrama and novelas that are “central to our content strategy,” and that ViX has previously added “some of the best Spanish series,” while co-productions such as the Maxi Iglesias-starring Volver a Caer had provided the opportunity to attract local audiences.

ViX filmed the likes of comedy drama series Los Artistas in Spain and has worked with local Spanish talent including actresses María de Nati and Claudia Salas and showrunner Marc Cistaré in Las Pelotaris. It also filmed Mexican miniseries Montecristo in Madrid and Isla Brava, in the Canary Islands.

“By pushing ViX in the Spanish market, we can build on this strategy and grow our audience and deepen the engagement. In addition, we can super-serve the Latino immigrant population,” said Urbina.

“For Atresmedia, this represents a partnership with one of the largest global operators, TelevisaUnivision,” added Javier Bardají, CEO of Atresmedia. “They, like us, are a company that started its activity in the broadcast television world, focusing on quality content; so it is a natural alliance between their platform, ViX, which is a leader in Spanish in the American market, and Atresplayer, the local leader in Spain and also a benchmark in Latin America.”

Bardají added the addition of ViX would give his service access to “successful productions in the United States and Latin America,” and would “consolidate Atresmedia’s ongoing dynamic growth, not only in terms of subscribers, but also in users and hours of content.”

ViX is currently available through all major mobile devices, connected TVs and the web in the U.S., Mexico and Spanish-speaking Latin America, while Atresmedia has been building out its offer in Spain over recent years with carriage agreements and partnerships. It offers originals such as La Sombra de la Tierra, Santuario and El Gran Salto, and is available outside Spain as Atresplayer Internacional.

“As the streaming market becomes increasingly saturated, we offer a platform that delivers unique, culturally relevant content to Spanish-speaking audiences with original content created only in Spanish language,” said Urbina.

“We have a deep understanding of our viewers and know exactly what they want and how they want it. This insight enables us to produce stories that truly resonate with them. We create content with the understanding that the Spanish-speaking community seeks authentic representation on screen.”
