Taylor Sheridan's Yellowstone Spinoff Has Officially Found Its Beth Dutton Replacement

3 weeks ago 12

The following article contains spoilers for Dutton Ranch season 1, episode 3, "Act of God Business".

Between her fiery personality and her intense devotion to her husband Rip, nobody in the Yellowstone universe is more worthy of a spinoff than Beth, so it's no surprise that she and Rip continued their story in Dutton Ranch. Premiering on May 15, 2026, on Paramount+, the latest installment of the hit Taylor Sheridan franchise sees the main characters of Dutton Ranch relocate to Texas following a devastating fire in Montana, and open up their small, titular ranch.

However, Beth and Rip's new outfit doesn't have the power of the Dutton family legacy behind it, and for the first time, John Dutton III's only daughter is an underdog. That's not the only thing different about Beth, though. While she is still as formidable and savvy as ever, Beth is much more peaceful now that she's not trapped under the weight of her loyalty to her father. Three episodes in, and Beth hasn't even swung a fist yet.

Dutton Ranch isn't hurting for spirited women, though. 10 Petal Ranch owner Beulah Jackson is the Yellowstone universe's best villain yet, but it's her granddaughter, Oreana, who most resembles a young Beth Dutton. Like Beth, Oreana was born into a powerful ranching family. Also beautiful and rebellious, Oreana falls for the orphan cowboy Carter, just like Beth did Rip. However, the youngest Jackson has the opportunity to avoid Beth's mistakes.

Oreana Has Beth's Fiery Spirit But Isn't Shackled By Blind Family Loyalty

Beth's penchant for bar fights or her unrivaled ability to make enemies may seem like contenders for her biggest flaw, but ironically, it's actually Beth's loyalty to her father. As an incredibly skilled businesswoman, Beth knows that John's pride-and-joy ranch is failing, and that he's too stubborn to save it. But even though she's on a sinking ship, Beth just says, "Yes, Daddy," and continuously puts herself at great emotional and physical risk in the process.

However, Oreana doesn't seem to have that problem in Dutton Ranch. She certainly shares some of Beth's emotional scars and is financially dependent on her grandmother, but Oreana is a free spirit who makes her dissatisfaction with living in the confines of ranch life known loud and clear.

Moments before they are intimate for the first time, Oreana espouses her philosophy to Carter, urging him to go back to the Yellowstone Ranch if that's what he wants to do. Beth and Oreana both see their legacies as prisons, but the latter may actually be brave enough for a jailbreak.

That may be easier said than done, though, because Beulah Jackson is a woman who gets what she wants, and it's clear that she wants Oreana under both her roof and her thumb. Also, the devastating ending of Dutton Ranch episode 3 reveals that Beulah may have sabotaged Beth and Rip's entire cattle herd. This could easily devolve into a war between the two ranches, with Oreana and Carter caught in the middle as tragic Romeo and Juliet figures.

Paramount+ releases weekly episodes of Dutton Ranch on Fridays, with the season 1 finale set to air on July 3, 2026.

This means that Oreana will have to make a choice, and even though she likes Carter, she may not be ready to risk everything for him. After all, it took Beth well into adulthood to realize the true love she already had with Rip. Over Dutton Ranch's six remaining episodes, it will be thrilling to see if history repeats itself in Oreana and Carter's relationship.
