Taylor Sheridan is one of the most successful Western writers of all time, and while many credit his breakout TV project, Yellowstone, with his success, he had been writing acclaimed projects long before hedecided to tell the story of the Duttons. Sheridan spent several years writing movies such as Wind River and Hell or High Water before he ever penned an episode of Yellowstone. The former stars Marvel veterans Jeremy Renner and Elizabeth Olsen, and the latter features Chris Pine and Jeff Bridges. However, Sheridan made his feature-writing debut on a film many would argue is still his best project.
In 2015, Sheridan wrote his first-ever screenplay when he penned Sicario, the legendary neo-Western drug-crime thriller following an FBI agent who is recruited to join a government task force keeping a handle on the war on drugs at the border. However, the agent is forced to question her entire career when she realizes the lengths her new partners will go to ensure a safe border. Sheridan recruited a star-studded ensemble consisting of Emily Blunt, Josh Brolin, Benicio del Toro, and Jon Bernthal to star in Sicario, and Denis Villeneuve directed the film. It even spawned a sequel, Sicario: Day of the Soldado.
In America, Sicario is currently streaming on Peacock for all subscribers. The film finished 2025 only available to rent or purchase on VOD platforms like Prime Video, but it landed on Peacock in January, where it remains with no announcement of its departure yet. However, in some global territories with no access to Peacock, Sicario has begun trending in the VOD top 10 on iTunes in several countries around the world.
Is Taylor Sheridan Writing Another ‘Sicario’ Movie?
While there has been no official announcement from Lionsgate or Paramount that Taylor Sheridan is working on another Sicario movie, there have been whispers that the franchise isn’t dead yet. Last year, during his press tour to promote Weapons, Josh Brolin let slip that Sheridan was writing the script for a third Sicario movie. However, this doesn’t guarantee that the film will ever make it to the big screen. If Sheridan can’t crack a story he’s satisfied with, he may opt to focus on other projects. He’s also confirmed to be leaving Paramount over the following years, which makes getting new projects greenlit even more complicated.
Be sure to watch Sicario on Peacock in America and stay tuned to Collider for more streaming updates.
